    4. UPDATE YOUR SYSTEM MENU VERSION (OPTIONAL)

This step is optional, you may upgrade now if you wish, LU64+ owners cannot downgrade! but can upgrade if you want. If you want to update to 4.1 then make sure you have at least 250 blocks free, install IOS60-patched first (step 5a), then run Firmware Updater 4.1. If you are on 3.3 or 3.4 then I strongly recommend updating.

    5. THE FINAL STEP

Preloader is also an optional install, if you don't want it just skip b & c, system menu hacks can be taken care of by Starfall (3.2) or startpatch (4), if you want them click my sig and have a look through my mediafire. There are no preloader hacks for 3.3/3.4 or jap wiis, either upgrade or use startpatch/change region if your wii is jap.

    a) If you are on system menu 4/4.1 use Wad Manager with default settings (IOS249 & SD card) to install IOS60-patched.wad - make sure you do this before you install Preloader. If you installed it in step 4 then skip this part. Never uninstall IOS60! You will brick!!

b). Open the Homebrew Channel and load Preloader, press 1 to install. After install, your Wii should reboot and load the Preloader menu. If it doesn't, turn your wii off and on again whilst holding down reset and it will load the Preloader menu.

    c) Select 'system hacks' in the Preloader menu, and enable the hacks that you want - 'skip disc update check' and the region free ones are all you need. Select 'save settings' and wait for confirmation message to display 'settings saved'. Press B to go back, and enter Settings. Set 'Autoboot: System Menu' using D-Pad, then select save settings. Press B to return to main Preloader menu.

    d) In the Preloader menu select Homebrew Channel, run Wad Manager 1.4, use default settings (IOS249 & SD card) and install these wads from the 'wad' folder:

    IOS38-64-v3610
    IOS50-64-v4889
    IOS53-64-v5149
    IOS55-64-v5149
    NeoGammaR7

    Then restart your Wii.

All done! You will now have the safety/hacks of Preloader & Bootmii, NeoGamma R7 backup loader that has 99% compatibility, cIOS249 r14 and IOS38, 53 & 55 for newer games.

I started at number 1 and i think i got crossed up here,i know it lu38 and i think it's from the usa but when i loader preloader i didn't see none of these in my wade file. My question is can i uninstall preloader without starting from scratch and just ad the starpatch cause my wii is ver3.4 but i did do the update thing so i really don't know what happen

@byrd - try uninstalling it via wii options>memory management and installing again

@aj1 - it will work on your wii just remember to never downgrade it.

@mrmoth - i have some asda dvd-rs for films...do they work ok then?

@xl990 - do the update again, this will get rid of preloader too.

Hi, sorry am a real noob, but I carried out the soft mod on my wii as per the instructions on here....and great...worked really well. That was three days ago. Now none of my backups will play (Neogamma says "timeout") and none of my original nintendo disks will play either (tells me to power off and consult manual)....Can anyone help?

it shouldnt affect everything like that which leads me to beleive that your laser may have packed up/got dirty...i think you can get wii cleaning kits/discs, maybe you should try one of them?

Hi, thanks for replying so quickly by the way...amazing! I was having a little trouble a couple of months back with my games not loading so I bought the official nintendo lense cleaner, (best £10 I ever spent), this solved all the loading problems. This is definitely not the same problem (although I have cleaned the lense today), when it was having trouble reading it before I just got the ? error loading message, this is giving me a black screen with white writing telling me to turn off the wii and consult the manual. I still get the menu and all the channels etc as well as the loader, when using the neogamma7 the discs are saying "timeout". Sorry.

damn thats not good at all - i have no idea what could have caused it to just suddenly stop working like that, backups use ios249 and the loader to work but originals don't use the loader or ios249 so i can't work out what could be causing the problem? you could try changing the cios to r13 and the loader to neogamma r6 or r5, click my sig and have a look through my mediafire to find all the files....you could also try using the usb loader, i hope that will still work.
