hmmmmm, ive heard that sys menu 4.2 actually RUNS on IOS70..... if it is a bad wad, you might have to wait till 4.3 or 5.0 etc. before being able to boot into system menu. maybe that is why preloader mucked up as well, because I think it runs on system menu IOS too......

but here is what is working right now, I can boot to it through starfall by pressing Y on my GC Controller, I get is the 3.2U to come up so I know the system hasn't updated. I can run games, both burnt and retail because of the modchip, but how can I load WAD manager from this screen? If I can even do that at all??

try Universal Unbrick Disc v4 ????? that loads from recovery menu and loads the Wad Manager v1.5......

guess its a bad video output? wonder what sob story i can come up with its an older wii i think due to lu3 something or other. does anyone else have a guess what i could try.?

are u sure that it is NOT going into recovery menu? if the system menu installed is 3.2 or lower, I don't think that the writing on the bottom-right actually appears...... if your brick doesn't show the HEALTH AND SAFETY precautions screen but just shows a black screen, you may be mistaking the RecoveryMenu for the frozen black screen.....

please correct me if im talking rubbish, im not much into the older firmwares, i have 4.0E installed

dunno about this one, is the TV the same region as the Wii? for example, for a NTSC-U wii, does the TV support NTSC or for a PAL wii, does the TV support PAL? This may be the issue, although even if the TV supports the wrong region, aspect ratio and colour issues are the only issues that occur, but I may be wrong.........

Otherwise using the method explained in the first post go to data management and format the Wii memory, it should also sort out you issue

maybe some people are having trouble with this step... has everyone stuck their GC CONTROLLERS in PORT 4??? NOT ANY OTHER PORT???

it only works on PORT 4, and to press all 4 digital directional pad buttons at the same time, you have to take the casing off. Although most people say that only official Nintendo controllers work, I have a PowerWave 3rd-Party GC Controller, but I managed to get into SaveMiiFrii !!

If anyone wants to ask me to test anything or find some answers, dont hesitate to ask, I have DriveKey v2, Priiloader as IOS60 (trucha bug present), BootMii as IOS, so I should be pretty safe if something goes wrong (yes I have NAND backup too), although if my system menu gets corrupt, I will have to update through savemiifrii to save my wii (because Priiloader cannot save a wii if its IOS isnt working anymore).......................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................. But yeah, if u want any help, just ask

EDIT: oh yeah, if you find any of my posts useful, please say thanks!! it doesn't take long

    i appreciate it!

(PS no im not a pirate, i got a modchip so that i could recover my wii from a banner brick that i got...)
(PPS if any of yous get out of the brick, please take all necessary precautions like Preloader or BootMii etc. Remember, if your wii has the new Boot1 and BootMii cannot be installed as Boot2 and only as an IOS, install preloader as well. To get into Priiloader, hold the RESET button on the Wii while booting.

After I bricked (i didnt have BOOTMII, or PRIILOADER, or even a NAND BACKUP before I bricked, but luckily my IOS60 was trucha patched so I bought a drivekey v2 and saved it with UUDv4 : go into GBAtemp "CIOSX rev 18 installer released" or something like that, page 8 or 9 or so, you can see my Wiis life story.......(my picture is a SM64 style Mario bowing with an "A" on his cap [done with TT64])

    Hello Everyone,

I've been reading this thread to find a backup scenerio for my 4.2u incase it gets bricked (before i softmod). I've noticed that no one has mentioned a 4.2U brick, is this because the steps for softmodding a 4.2u prevents a brick? I'm know that my 4.2U does not allow bootmii to install in boot2 but at the same time, installing in IOS carrys a risk of not being able to recover even a backed up NAND. Am I missing something here? Sorry for the noob question.

    Thanks!

do these methods work on 4.1 and 4.2 becuase

k i just tryed the universal disc no luck either

    purchased broken wii

did recovery mod with gamecube controller says wii 4.2

was told was not modded (don't know how it got bricked)

tried wii repair disc v1.3 didn't work

tried universal disc v2 didn't work

burnt both those disc at 4x

i have drivekey with auto boot
try with and without auto boot setting on

when i put the discs in it tries to load the drive key blink blue like 5 times real quick

anyways its not booting could i have some special brick or something or what else could i try

fyi i also have 2 wii and i tested the drivekey and the laser im using the drive from my good wii just incase the laser was busted to anyways wont boot why is this

can i have tried the universal disc on my working 4.1 wii and it wont even boot in that
i got the download from trudinc downloads

right now im burning at 2.4 i also tryed 4x on verbatim and fuji

this is my last try doing it at 2.4 if this doesn't work im assuming that the universal .iso i got is not good because it doesn't work on my working wii

so does anyone have a link for a working universal v2 .iso cause the link in the tutorial doesn't work

IF ITS A NEW WII like within say about xmas or so , they have the new i think d23 drive that wont read dvd -r backups at all even with a mod chip. that could be the problem, e-bay has drives for like 35 bucks or so , or use a drive off a good wii to get it back up then swap back again. the new black wii's are all goin to have this new drive soon, and if nintendo refurbishes your wii at this time they install the new drive no matter what. my motherboard was bad got it and the new drive dang it. 4.2u softmodded and put a usb hdd on it .

dude, i just told you all in my last message..... IF you cant install BootMii on boot2 (just like me ), INSTALL IT AS IOS and install PRIILOADER alongside it........ even though this is not much protection compared to BootMii in boot2, you can launch BootMii on IOS through Priiloader and restore your NAND from a backup on your SD Card.......

and if you have the HomeBrew channel, you can launch that directly. of you can load an elf/dol homebrew file from WITHIN prilloader!!!!! the only thing that may be a risk, is if you get your Wii bricked with incorrect system menu or whatever...

(because priiloader runs on sys IOS [60 for 4.0 and 4.1, and 70 for 4.2] or another IOS, if that IOS is damaged, you cannot run Priiloader. but it WILL protect you from frustrating stuff like BANNER BRICKS {which really suck because your Wii is almost TOTALLY unusable because of a FAULTY CHANNEL or PICTURE} [i went through a banner brick too like i said in my previous post] )

so i hope you get your wiis repaired everyone!

i was on 4.0E when my Wii was bricked....... so if I can restore my Wii, so can you (if you happen to have the trucha bug on your sys IOS (my IOS60 was patched because I updated to 4.0E via waninkoko's updater) --------======
