OK per the instructions..."4. Put the SD card in wii, go to Wii Options, than go to Data Management > channels > SD Card then you will get a message saying "Load /boot.dol?" select 'Yes' and Wad Manager 1.4 will run,After this you have many options you can select...Am I to select IOS35? use this to install IOS35-64-v1040.wad, If it doesn't work, don't worry it is already installed

And yes Zero I have tried going on without it...to no avail.
Oh and thanks for sticking with me through all of this /thumbs up!

I will also try a new SD Card like Dogg suggested.

What can I do if I had run it one time but connection failed. But when I try again with wireless connection the downgrader says failed to add title - maybe you allready had run this?

Can I do something? Please help.

Try moving onto step 3 - it should work...

The thread title says "How to get Homebrew Channel on virgin 4.0 Wii!".
My wii purchased in 2007. It has wiikey which is no longer working. I can only play original not backups. I updated from 3.4 to 4.0e by mistake. I never have HBC on the machine.

    - does my system fall into the "virgin 4.0" classification?
    - Can I use this guide to get HBC on the system?
    - After that, can I downgrade from 4.0e down to 3.2e?
    - Do i need to remove the wiikey ?

    Thank you

DO NOT TRY THIS ON AN LU64/65 MODEL

1: Download this rar and unpack it onto root of an SD card.

2: Put the SD card in wii, go to Wii Options, than go to Data Management > channels > SD Card then you will get a message saying "Load /boot.dol?" select 'Yes' and CMDVDX34 will run, then pick "Downgrade IOS35", let it finish its job.

[Input from Zerosyko]: If you get Exception (DSI) has occurred, turn the wii off, go to the system menu, install the update from a game like Brawl or Mario Kart, and try again. I had to try probably a good 10 times.

    3. Restart your Wii, take out the SD card, delete the boot.dol from the root and rename 'boot2.dol' to 'boot.dol'.

    4. Put the SD card in wii, go to Wii Options, than go to Data Management > channels > SD Card then you will get a message saying "Load /boot.dol?" select 'Yes' and Wad Manager 1.4 will run, use this to install IOS35-64-v1040.wad, If it doesn't work, don't worry it is already installed.

    5. Restart your wii and run wad manager 1.4 again using same method as step 4 except this time select IOS35 as the one it should use and install cIOS249 rev9.wad and HBC 1.0.1.wad.

    6. Done! You now have HBC and cIOS249 so all your HB should work. If you plan on staying on 4 add the patched IOS60 and run IOS downgrader.

    Now go read and search!!!

If you want to downgrade and use a backup loader read this

If you fancy the USB loader then read this

If you are new to wii hacking read this and this.

Credit to: Comex for bannerbomb and the IOS35 downgrade, Waninkoko for wad manager 1.4 and cIOS249, Team Twizzers for the HB Channel....and Nintendo for their Wii

MOST RET ERRORS CAN BE FIXED BY USING THE CIOS DOWNGRADER. GOOGLE IT.

DO NOT TRY THIS ON AN LU64/65 MODEL

    Thank you very much
I have a new wii which I updated to 4e when I got it . I now have a fully working homebrew channel.
There is one problem the homebrew browser will read a 2gb sd card but not a 8gb sdhc card.
The card is recognised by the wii when not in hbc.
    Any Ideas?

    Found answer
Format sd card fat32 and 4096

Would you recommend downgrade to 3.2 or just stay with 4.0?

Go to 3.2 unless you are going to use the sd card thing a lot.

    Hi there
I tried it on a Jap Wii with 4.0, but after selecting SD card, nothing happens. Any body tried it on a Jap Wii yet? If I select SD from the main menu window, it starts reading and hangs up. Have to restart the wii.
    thanks a lot

Same problem here, only HBC recognize a 2GB SD card and not the 4GB SDHC card, both are from Memorex.
    Any ideas/help is much welcome.
