i just read all 16 pages. this thread shined alot of light on things for me. i took everyones advice and got the verbatium dvd-r.
every "backup" i burn i have the original to. i just dont have the right dvd drive to dump them, so i download them.
my question is when i download a torrent, does it have to be compressed into a rar file. i noticed some are compressed and some just download the .iso file. also should i be consernes if the file i am downloading is not 4.37gb some are 4.14 ect. i want to cut down the chance of wasting time downloading corrupted files.

when you download the file and it's done, you open it with winrar and there should be a whole bunch of files about 90 or so megabytes big and named the same thing. just click on the first one and extract it to your desktop, they are all one large file. then open up imgburn which you can download here=> http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-gu...e-backups.html
imgburn and burn gsm and gcm images. so just open up the program select your your .gsm image file and burn at 2x. you can burn at higher speeds but I always burn at 2x to be safe. hope this solves your problem.

GDR-8164B is drivnig me nuts!!
I juat bought an external GDR-8164B off of ebay. I am having the hardest time trying to get it to work. I have tried it on XP and vista. I have tried to find drivers with no luck. I have tried to update the firmware and I get the error, this program cant be used on the selected device. I have tried different USB cables. I even recieved another GDR-8164B from seller at ebay because I thought there was a problem with the first DVD drive but both have the same problems or errors. In my computer it shows my e drive as the DVD rom, but it just shows DVD not GDR-8164B, then when I go to the device manager it does not even show up under the cd.dvds. I have tried imgburn and rawdump. Both do not see the GDR-8164B. The drive is in an enclosure and uses USB, again both my xp and vista laptops do not see besides in my computer. Please help or if possible point me in the right direction. I have looked all over for a solution and can not find one.
THANKS in advance!!

Problem with writing speed
I can't get my burner to work at 1x or 2x. I got a warning saying that the speed is switched to 4x.
I'm using an Asus DVD burner, DVD-R discs and ImgBurn Software.
Has anyone had that problem before?
