Broadband Speed

So today I checked my broadband speed as I have been doing all this week and it varies from 0.14mb/ps to around 4.67 mb/ps all this week, so I phoned up my ISP (Sky) and told them and they got it up to 16.78mb/ps but as soon as I put the phone down it dropped to 2.68mb/ps and now its at 1.24 mb/ps and I was wondering why it is not sustaining a decent level of mb/ps and I am getting fed up with it now and I dont want to phone my ISP back up because they took 45 mins on a premium line (25p per min if i remember correctly) so is there anyway I can do it, any programs that will tune it to keep a decent level of speed or perhaps something else ?

Anyone ?

stop whining i get 450kbps and thats really fast in australia.

Slow by world standards but fast for us. :(

Time to change providers.. or dish out the cash for a higher Mbit connection. another problem might be your modem. If you are using a router, make sure its in an elevated place.

Sky are rolling everyone onto ADSL2+ at the moment. I've seen my download drop from 4Mbps to 3Mbps but my upload has increased from 448 kbps up to 606 kbps. I'd rather have the faster download. If I weren't moving in 4 weeks I'd ring them up and ask to be put back on gdmt.

You should look at Sky User if you want to whine about it some more.

I suggest everyone to change to Virgin Fibreoptic as you can get speeds up to 50Meg but I only have the 24Meg package but still great service in my opinion it is avalible in the UK not sure if it is avalible anywhere else :D

Sounds great for those that have Virgin in their street anyway.

changed from BT to virgin last week :p had 8meg with BT, was lucky to get 0.5meg on a good day, then they had the cheeck to limit my speed cos i downloaded to much (125gig in a month excessive? meh!), so, after the restriction, my speed went up!

Now with virgin, only have 10meg package at the minute (problem with exchange apparently) and i can download from decent trackers at 1.1 MB/s most of the time, even peak times!

Moving in a couple of weeks hopefully. Still won't be in a Virgin area unfortunately. I should be within a few hundred metres of the exchange though so hopefully should see an improvement.

125gig, yes that will be too high for BT. Had to leave BT because of their limits a few years ago. Sky want me to limit myself to 10Gigs a month. I struggle to limit myself to that in a day some of the time.

LOL 125GB wow before virgin I was with BT and omg lol I have a download limit of 5GB and I was always downloading about 6 or 7GB more but 125 lol

But the 50Meg is not that fast lol as I was reading in a magazine can't remember what one, in france orange is testing the new 200Meg internet lol that will be expensive as the 50Meg over here is 45 quid I think.
