    hi,
is it possible to release the source of the programmer and the menu? I want to port it to linux (libusb) and it is easier with the sources porting it to libusb also makes it useable on freebsd and osx. the sources for the menu would be cool to be able to change e.g. the background or extend it.

    many thanks in advance

Foofoo, when I first plugged my sundriver in to my PC when using a drive which had previously been used for backups, it presented it as a regular drive so I suspect the sundriver actually presents as just a regular mass-storage device. You should be able to avoid using libusb and just access the drive at the block level directly I think. The only issue would be working out the formatting but I suspect it is very simple on the sundriver and it shouldn't take too much inspection to work it out.

Edit: I just tried this. It shows up in the logs as /dev/sde but the logs showed IO errors and when I tried to fdisk it, it refused so I guess it's not as simple as that. Would have been nice though.

What would be nice would be a network interface so ISOs could be uploaded over wifi instead of needing to drag a computer to the Wii. I'm guessing it wouldn't be a good idea to let the Wii have write access to the drive though (knowing how Nintendo treats things it doesn't like). Then again, I guess it might always be possible to plug the sundriver into the USB ports on the back of the Wii. How about it, d2sun?

By the way, I'm really liking the Sundriver so far. The only thing that would be nice would be a pass-through to the Wii drive, maybe in an external enclosure.

This thread may shed some light on this:

MP3 player problems - Ubuntu Forums

Recompiling the kernel with a modified unusual_devs.h perhaps?

    This could work.

The format of the sundriver "file system" is very basic and easy to find out. I already have written a libusb "driver" for it:

    http://www.wiihacks.com/sundriver/63...plication.html

Copy and the config flags are working quite well - feel free to test it
I will fix the bugs and add a libfuse layer if I find some time...

for the wifi one would need to reveng the sundriver menu dvd to find out how to talk to the chip. I don't know if it is possible to talk to the chip in "wii mode" because the menu is a gamecube homebrew.

    Edit:
    con libusb:
-a lot of context switches which makes the speed a bit slower (not much)

    pro libusb
    -portable (linux,mac,windows)
-no need to recomplie the kernel

    pro kernelpatch
    -less contextswitches
-using standard commands such as dd
    con kernelpatch
-not portable it will not work on osx or windows
    -need to recompile the kernel

I agree, kernel recompile is probably a step-too-far for most people, especially since you are already there with the libusb.

I strongly suspect that the wii has no way to write to the sundrive. Though there's no telling what backdoors there are, it's probably best not to have any as I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to fill the hard-drive with zeros if they had the chance. I reckon plugging the sundrive into the Wii and using homebrew has to be the best bet. Since Wii Linux exists, it might even be possible to use your libusb stuff on that.

Edit: I'll just point out that the sundrive showed up as a regular drive before formatting under Windows so the kernel patch is likely not even an issue. I have no idea about FreeBSD.
