No Game Controller needed for Bootmii NAND Backup (worked for me)

I noticed while doing the NAND backup (atleast true for me), that I didnt require the Game controller to select.

The power button was working perfect for scroling the Menu but Presing the Reset button was resetting the WII.
So, for Selecting the menu, I had to keep the Power + Reset button pressed together. The trick I used was with Power button go to the Selection you want and dont release the power button. Keeping the power button pressed, press the Reset button which should do the trick.

I dont know if that is helpful to anybody but try.

The original controller IS required to use your backup NAND if you ever need to.

As it this did not work for me, I continued the softmod without backing up the NAND.

I am going to buy a controller now, but the question is should I worry about this after I have installed wads through Homebrew Broswer? Should I remove anything before?

Basically I wanted to know what gets installed in the NAND if anything?

things on the homebrew browser are all safe (to my knowledge) only the custom menu loader could potentielly be harmful but you won't need it
it's like the preloader hacks but without the benefits of preloader's brickprotection
and well the nand is you're wii's memory, as good as everything gets stored on there
that's why a nand back up is so important if you mess up, you can go back to you're old wii's memory by loading back in that nand through bootmii (note you will need bootmii as boot2 if you wanna be able to doo a nand restore, not an ios if you have bootmii as ios it won't do you any good)

Sorry to dig up this old thread but can somebody please elaborate on this point or kick me in the right direction. If the only option is to use bootmii as IOS and I have made a Nand Backup how else am I suppose to restore if something happened? I've search and search for Nand and restore but there a TON of threads. This hasn't happened to me yet but I would like to know what good is this nand if I can't use it.

I now exactly what you mean, as I had the same dilema.

It is not recommended, simple as that. The best and only way to protect from a Full Brick is installing prilloader. Threads of interest:
Add Priiloader to 4.1U or 4.1E or 4.2U or 4.2E by WiiJohn
and
Fully Brick, Bootmii/boot2 installed but No Nand Backup? Solution Here!
