I have a copy of New Super Mario Bros. but it won’t work?
This game (and probably every game from here on out) has a new check on it called BCA. Can I softmod my wii?
YES. You can softmod any wii from 3.1-4.1 using [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register] and you can softmod a 4.2 using [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register]
I get error 002 when I try to load a game
002 Error is an old problem. Newer backup loaders have either an option to turn the 002 fix on, or the fix is built in like in [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register] and up. If you get this error, either turn the fix on, or update your backup loader to something like [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register] for usb, or neogamma rev7+ for discs or usb.

My Homebrew is upside down!!!!!!
So your homebrew channel is upside down… This means either your TV needs to rotate 180 degrees, OR some people thought this would be a great prank to pull on people who pirate games. The way to fix this is to re-install homebrew… All is well again.

Something doesn’t work, Should I UPGRADE TO 4.2?
The main reason Nintendo put out the 4.2 update was to destroy homebrew. On modchips it removes the ability to play region-free, and on softmods it screws up the homebrew channel. If you’ve already updated to 4.2, all is not lost. There are many members on this site who are on 3.2 who can play the newest game out there.

I keep getting DVD read errors when I try to launch a game.
Standard solution is to burn at a slow speed like 2x or 4x using imgburn and Verbatim DVD-R discs. Also check out the error code index mentioned above.

I get a black screen when I try to load a game.
This is usually caused by your missing an IOS that a game needs to load. Find out what IOS a game needs [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register] and then ensure you have it or a later version using DOP-IOS. Thanks to Tealc.

I just bought a new wii. Does it have the new drive chip?
Although omnipotence is possessed by many members here, it’s all speculation. If it was bought retail and is new, then there’s a good chance it could have the new D3-2 chip that prevents you from playing backup discs. Only way to know is to either open up the wii which will void the warranty, or softmod and try to load a backup. (Please don’t use a problematic game like NSMB or GH5. Waste a DVD and give wiisports a shot.)

My game is running but it’s in black and white…
This is more than likely an out of region game issue. Try changing the settings in your loader to force the video to your region.

What external Hard Drive should I get?

How do you install WADS?
WADS are installed using Wadmanager in homebrew

How do I install a .dol file?
On your SD card, create a new folder under apps and title it whatever you’re installing so you know what it is. Put your .dol file and all other files with it in this folder, and rename the .dol file to boot.dol if it is not named that already.

I can’t access my system menu! I get a screen that says stuff like: Load/Install File, Systemmenu Hacks, Settings, Settings…
This is your preloader. It can be navigated with the wii remote or a GC Controller. If you want it to boot to system menu then go to settings and change the autoboot to: System menu. You can always pull it up again by holding reset when you power on your wii. If you get a message saying your system menu is corrupt, then you have an issue and should start a post in the bricked forum. (There are solutions, but it is different for every case and would be a new thread entirely to address this issue.)

Wii Sports Resort won’t work…
