I haven't paid any attention to the wii hacking progress since I modded it long ago. I modded mine with a PIC12F629 with some custom firmware to allow backups (even made it external for easy updates). I recently used someone elses wii with a softmod and was surprised at how much it could do. So my question is, is there any purpose in having a hardmod anymore? So far I don't see any real benefit for it.
My drive slot loading mechanism is pretty much broken...have to leave it open and manually put disks in, so I was considering just doing a softmod and removing the drive completely (just have mainboard connected) and making a new case for the console. Any reason not to?
