The most important thing when using any anti virus imo is making sure it scans for Rootkits. Any virus you get or any malware etc are all pretty easy to fix or at least give you the chance to keep needed files and so on. If you get a Rootkit though its them that really mess your system.

For those who dont know what a Rootkit is its pretty much a virus that will manipulate your operating system into accepting a virus. SO the rootkits are the ones that actually do system damage the most and allow other virus in.

I use Avast as is smallest on memory, scans for all virus types and have found that in the time I have used it, to my knowledge no virus has gotten in. I also run superantispyware. The free version. Just for that lil extra back-up.

I'm using a combination of Microsoft Security Essentials, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Adaware from lavasoft, theyre all free Essientials and Spybot are running in real time. and just do regular scans with Adaware. Each one of them can find stuff the other can't.

Eset Nod for me + Malwarebytes. I scanned with Malwarebytes and it picked up 20 infections nod didnt pick up so to the earlier posting about the person that said I dont have any protection, I would be careful you never know who might be spying on you(at least get avg free edition).

You can near enough pick up a virus by just connecting to the net.

Eset Nod 32 Antivirus, Windows 7 firewall on my main system. I have a AVG on my daughter's laptop which I maintain she's also using Win7 firewall. Peerblock on both. spybot on both, malwarebytes antimalware on both, as well as spywareblaster on both.
Surprised to not see more people using Avira. I hear good things about them they have a small memory footprint as well, though in the past I'd had problems with many false positives.

i discover ZenOK Free Antivirus after trying lots of different ones. I'm all for free so I tried several different free ones which seemed to work ok, but my computer would get bogged down.
