Syscheck looks good, i would suggest that it might be a compatibility issue with the hard drive.

Is the hard drive on the compatibility list?
What do u have the drive formatted to?

Thanks very much for your reply! The hard drive is formatted NTFS but it's not on the compatibility list. After some rigorous testing, it's obvious the hard drive's lack of compatibility is the problem. There is no problem and all of the symptoms are gone when using a flash drive instead of a hard drive.

I didn't realise that only limited hard drive models were compatible, so I'm very sorry for wasting your time with this problem that could have been averted if I had read more thoroughly. Thankyou very much for help in solving this problem, though!

Just because it's not on the list, doesn't mean it won't work. It just means that has never been tested.

Since we now know it doesn't work, can you post a message as a reply to that thread with your model of hard drive and state that it does NOT work, then others with the same hard drive will see it and see it is a known problem.

    Thanks.

Include the controller information as well (if you bought it separately and it wasn't a "combo").

Please assist me in understanding this system check and choose a suitable HDD, thanks

Kind helpers, my ultimate goal in posting here is getting help in choosing a Hard drive to go along with this setup, or if needs be, getting directions what else should be installed on the console or modified in it so that it can optimally read games from an external drive.
Forgive me in advance, please, if in the following description you find that I am stating the obvious.
The console belongs to friends who had sent it to shops on two occasions for modification. The first was a couple of years ago and that modification allowed them to play games downloaded and burned to CD-ROMS as long as they were of PAL format. NTSC games would not play.
The second was but recently when a wbfs IOS was installed to enable the console to play games directly from HDD.
Having browsed some of the info on this forum I am given to understand by the compatibility page that some Hard drives are more or less suitable for some setups.
I have a list of hard drives from which I would like to purchase the one which is most suitable, or if none is, I`d like to make adjustments in the wii console accordingly.

    That`s my system check:

    Spoiler

If anyone can shed some light over these readings, whether it is by clarifying which IOS is running, or whether homebrew version needs updating, or whether by pointing out which of the hard drives is most suitable (Whether it be from the list below or any other drive that you may recommend) or whether I should make further modifications to the system so that it may better play from HDD, I`d be very grateful.
    potential HDD list of purchse:
Western Digital Elements Portable 500GB WDBPCK5000ABK
Western Digital My Passport Essential 500GB WDBACY5000ABK
Seagate Expansion External Drive 500GB STBX500200
Western Digital 500GB Elements Portable 500GB

If the hard drive works, it works. There isn't really a "works better than another". So if it's on the compatibility list as working, you should be good to go .

Your system does need to be updated with the latest mod. Your HBC version is low, as are most of your cIOS's.

To fix this, look for the Softmod Any Wii guide in my signature and run through it from the top.

To get things going on your hard drive, I'd suggest you look at the FAT32 guide, but if you'd rather use NTFS, guides to both are also in my signature.

Thank you, llaffer, for your response and the links. I`ll be sure to use them.
Would you say that it would be OK for me to buy now first the "Western Digital My Passport Essential WDBACY5000ARD-NESN USB 3.0/2.0 500GB" that is listed in the compatibility list as "working", only so as to "get started and going" and only later on to fix my deficiencies, or would it be imperative I fix them first? Or in other words - would I be able to still play games from USB, given the current specs of my system?
Naturally I understand you cannot vouch for any choice I may or may not make - it is your non committing opinion I am seeking.
    Thank you

    Removed Outside Link.

    Hello,

I'm a newbie coming to softmodding a Wii. I have on old Wii with hardware changes so I can play backed up games, I got it when the console was first released. Now I have entered the world of homebrew and I installed it with these instructions:

    Removed Outside Link.

I followed instructions to step 12 but didn't go for advanced part where you install cIOS.

My Wii version is 4.3E and as far I can tell I installed the Bootmii to Boot2 and also to SD memory card. Everything else works fine but Homebrew browser crashes to "exception (dsi) occurred" error with two different SDHC-cards (Kingston 4GB, class 4 and Transcend 8GB class 10). I can however run other homebrew applications without problems. Any ideas what might be causing this? Here is my system log:

    Spoiler

Follow the Soft Mod Any Wii Guide. Link is at the bottom of my Signature.
Start from Chapter 2 and follow the guide all the way through.
Please read the guide a few times before proceeding.
You are not Modded, all you have installed is HBC.
