Hi, I have an old Japanese Wii that was bought in June 2007. It has been modded and updated a few times over the years, but I’ve never done it myself, so I don’t know what method(s) they used. I have a feeling it might be hard modded as well as soft modded (if that makes a difference), but I’m not sure.

Right now most games are playable using the disc channel directly or a loader for out of region games, so there is no real urgency here. However, I know I am missing some CIOSes that other games require. I’m unsure, given my current configuration, where to begin or which guide I should follow to install/update them.

Anyway, I was hoping you could take a look at my system check and let me know:
    a) How it looks right now
    b) If anything needs to be installed/updated
    c) Which guide to follow to update/install CIOSes in the future

    Thanks

If your HDD is on the compatibility list and is 100% Compatible, then try re-ripping the games.
Also make sure those games are not Problematic games, meaning they need to be loaded with a certain Cios.
Try different loaders as well , to make sure it's not just your Games or Hdd giving you the problem.
You can also try going back to D2x v7 Cios's, to see if that clears things up or go up to D2x v9 beta 49 cios's.
Re-ripping the games did the trick. Thanks Jax!

None of the games will play if I don't put a DVD in.

    Really apprecitate your help.

Oh, nerds of infinite 1337ness, hear me

    Spoiler

First of all, this website is fantastic.

A big high five up top, down low, ohhh too slow to the talented people who made this possible.

I'm no stranger to this type of thing but trying to get everything working with this Wii has been a bit frustrating.

History: purchased this Wii from a fellow on craigslist already softmodded.

Now I'm trying to make sure everything is updated and good to go.

I've installed a few random things but thought it best to leave this to some trained eyes to decide what my next course of action should be.

I should note that I know there is an updated homebrew channel out there but for whatever reason, I am not prompted to update when I am in the homebrew channel. I've been able to get Paper Mario working with a DVD+R (are they really bad for the Wii?) backup copy.

CFG only works with Goldeneye, which I have on a 32gb Toshiba Wii formatted thumb drive. Other games will hang as you try to load them, show a black screen, or in the case of Smash Brothers, appear to work normally until you get to the game's main screen but only show an all white screen. I have the same results when trying to load games with NeoGamma.

That said, what's the best way to archive your games? Best for compatibility? Using a Wii formatted hard drive? Using DVD-R backups?

Thanks a lot guys.. I will be browsing the forums for more info in the meantime.

Everything looks o.k., but you could use an update on your cios's.
Follow this link to update your Cios.link->D2x Cios Installation
Follow this link to install Cios 223[37+38].Link->Cios Wad

Your HBC Seems to be Updated,.
You are using an outdated System Check.
It's best to use DVD-R (Verbatim Disc), But some DVD+R's will work. We recommend using an HDD, to save your disc drive.
Here is a USB Hdd Compatibility List.LINK.
We Recommend formatting to Fat32, Here is a Guide.Link->Fat32 Guide
It's best to use a HDD to load your Games from , you want to conserve your Disc Drive.
