WBFS drive with over 500 games...

As the first person to let you all know that WBFS had a 500 game limit I'll be the first to let you know that it's no longer true

Since the number of games a WBFS drive can hold is 12 less than the drive's sector size and since all drives used to be 512b sectors the number of games the drive could hold was limited to 500.

Now we have a new generation of drives out there like the 3tb seagate that uses 4096b (4k) sectors that can hold up to 4084 games. Realistically, because of game sizes, you'll actually be able to fit about 1400 or so games on it but it's now possible to do so.

So far the 3tb Seagate Goflex has been tested to work with CFG loader and usb loader GX. Simply take the drive out of the box and format it WBFS with Wii Backup Manager and you're all set!

Still think WBFS is obsolete? Ironically, the ONLY way these new generation drives will work on the Wii is with WBFS - the Wii won't even be able to see these drives as FAT32 or NTFS.

I really don't know why anyone would need or have over 500 games in the first place. So you are saying that if you partitioned this drive and formatted 1TB to FAT32 and set to active and primary the loader (Cfg loader) won't recognize it? Have you tested this?
    Damn I suck!!!!

Yes I have. It won't work. The FAT32 and NTFS libs are all hardcoded to 512b sectors so the Wii, in general, can not recognize it. WBFS retrieves the actual sector size from the hard drive so it works. There are a couple drawbacks like having to use the entire drive WBFS and going back to using an SD card.

i have a western digital My Book Essential 3TB External USB 3.0/2.0 Hard Drive bought it at costco as same price on sale as 2 tb.
but seem to be having problems with it. I have tried to format it to wbfs with wbsf manager v3.0 but came up errors every time. then used wii backup manager v 0.3.7 build 58 and that seemed to format it and games seem to add to it through backup manager
but wbfs manager still won't load it or format.
and when i plug it into wii it doesn't even see the hard drive and i have tried using usb cfg loader, uloader and usb loader gx. none of them see it at all

    am i missing something?

What cIOS are you using? I tried it and it doesn't work. Yes, you can format the 3tb drive NTFS and load all the Wii games on it but it DOES NOT work on the Wii. The NTFS.lib is hard coded to 512b sector size. I am using cIOS249 rev 20. It would be cool if the later revs fixed the problem

Oh crud... I just noticed that the previous poster was banned. I didn't believe his post but was hopeful

With loader gx I remember in the updates to the program they said that they had removed the total game cap that used to be built in.
