Have new D3-2 Drive Wii... Can I Play Gamecube Backups from SD or USB Gecko?

First off... I hope I am posting in the right place as I am not sure if there is a section for this. Admins, feel free to re-direct this if necessary.

    Now onto my question...

I currently have a new Wii (purchased one week ago from Sears) that is a United States 4.2U wii. A friend came over and softmodded it. After getting homebrew on it, we tried 2 versions of neogamma and found that I have the new D3-2 drive.

After searching for a while to play Gamecube games without a USB HDD, I came across this thread on another forum below:

Playing backups through SD Gekko!! [Archive] - MaxConsole

After reading about it, I did further research and then I saw an actual Wiihacks thread on SD Gecko here:

    http://www.wiihacks.com/general-home...-can-i-do.html

SD Gecko seems like it's a viable option for playing Gamecube backups on my D3-2 Wii, however the older posts date back to 2007, and I am wondering if SD Gecko would even work on a new Wii due to the firmware updates Nintendo likes to issue. Does anyone know if SD Gecko will work on my new Wii (or if it will even boot Gamecube games on my Wii through SD card for that matter)? I read everywhere on the forums how the USB slots get "disabled" when a Gamecube game is played... and I am assuming the same thing happens with the SD slot. Yet, SD Gecko claims to work on the Wii. What do you guys think about this possible Gamecube backup idea?

only way on a softmodded wii to play GC discs is via DVD.

Your only option if you have a D3-2 drive is WODE or Sundriver.

Is that a serious question? You were just told above that the only hardmods that will work for what your trying to do is WODE and Sundriver.

Or you can swapout your drive for a different one and use whatever modchip you want. Or just softmod your wii.
    Damn I suck!!!!

I have the same issue on my friends wii that I softmodded. It was at system menu 4.0 so we installed everything up to cIOS38r17. USBLoaded worked, factory games worked but backup discs would not for gamecube or wii. His serial # wasn't on the drive list at all but was really close to some with the D3-2 drives.
I was just wondering if these drive will even play wii backups or not. OR do I need install the IOS60 patch and upgrade to 4.1 with Waninkokos. OR do something else.
At this point I'm cross eyed from reading so I figured I'd wimp out and ask for advice.

I think the OP's concerns were addressed two weeks ago and now another user hijacked the thread to an asked-and-answered question so time for a thread close.
