It's also pretty unimportant (apart from possible power issues) what drive you have in your enclosure, it is the USB enclosure's interface that either works or doesn't with the loaders.
Freezing issues are often due to spindown issues. Unlike a PC the Wii does not send the USB HDD signals to maintain it's rotation and spin up when needed, so to cure this we have to either buy a drive with no spindown feature, live with it or change the setting using whichever software our drive manufacturer provide to access this setting.
