    comlete noob needs some advice

Hi all, as mentioned, I'm a complete noob at this and am hoping you folks can help me out. Here are the 2 issues I'm having.

First off, I'm on 4.2u and softmodded my wii using this tutorial

    xTerminate's All-In-One Wii Hacking Guide!

Now, I'm unsure if I missed a step somewhere, but I don't know if I can try to restart this all from scratch without damaging anything and how I would go about doing this. At the time, I didn't install bootmii which now I realize I should have done...

Now, the homebrew channel installed fine. I was also able to get Neogamma installed but am unable to test it. (should I be able to start the channel with no disc in it?) With no disc, when I click on neogamma channel, I just get a black screen and my wiimote disconnects.

My second issue is with my backups... I can't seem to burn any of my iso's. I tried a few different programs until I noticed most people are using imgburn. Tried this and it seems to work fine but get a "can't check sector" or something to that effect at the end of the burning process. Am I doing something wrong or is my iso just bad? Without knowing if I can burn a proper disc, I'm a bit in the dark whether neogamma will actually load my game.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm getting a little cross-eyed from trying to read all the different forums over the last few days.

    Thanks in advance

    Thumbs up

Hey i know what it feels like.

Btw i have no experience with disc loading

personal opinion=costs too much for the discs all the time

i'm usingWiiFlow a usb loader with a stylish GUI and i have 30 full wii games in the space of aprox. 20GB....

you are better off with usb loaders. so i'm going to teach you how to set one up...

    <DOWNLOADS!>

    1. The boot.dol in the root, copy it to the apps folder in a folder of it's own just quickly...
    2. open the homebrew channel and load the hackmii installer you just copied to the apps folder.
    3. install bootmii as boot2...
    4. restart your wii and use a gamecube controller to select Backup.
    5. go and have a coffee and a chill while it backs up... then copy the folder "Bootmii" and the file "NAND.bin". to your pc in a folder called something like... "Brick Protection", and delete them off the SD Card
    6. Start the Homebrew Channel and Run DOP-IOS MOD. Press A to continue to the next screen. Go down once and select "Install an IOS that accepts fakesigning" and press A to continue.
    7. Leave the next option at IOS36 but press B.
    8. Choose Downgrade "IOS15"
    9. Choose Download IOS from NUS
    10. When that has finished Change the IOS to 15 and press A, NOT B!
    11. Now go in the IOS36 menu and leave the top option to 36 but change all the other things to YES
    12. when you've done this go to Install Patched IOS and Press A. and download from NUS again.
    13. When that has finished Choose IOS36 and press A.
    14. This time restore IOS15, and download from NUS.(just choose this in the future lol)
    15. when thats all done restart your wii.
    16. load up DOP-IOS MOD again and change the IOS to 36 and press A whilst the cursor is on the first option.
    17. go to remove Stub IOSs. Allow the App to remove the Stub IOSs by pressing A (you might have to do this by selecting the Stub IOSs Individually).
    18. back in the DOP-IOS menu, choose IOSs.
    19. Go right until you see IOS70 and press A th install v6687 of this IOS.
    20. press A to continue.
    21. Say yes to sign Hash check (press A).
    22. when done press A then B Then HOME to Quit.

    What did I just do?
    • Brick proofed your Wii
    • Restored the Trucha Bug
    • Removed all the Stub IOSs from 4.2
    • Patched IOS36

The next few steps are a lot easier and simpler but have a Sudoku at the ready for when these are installing.

    • First up cIOS38_rev16
    • load it up and select IOS 249
    • Select Network Install
    • Wait
    • Done
    • restart the Wii

    what have i done now?
    • Installed Waninkoko's custom IOS used for booting Games on Non-Nintendo Media (shall we say...)

    Next Hermes cIOS 222 & 223

Remove all GameCube memory cards and controllers. * This step is very important. Do not ignore it .

    • Start HomeBrew Channel and start the cIOS 222 Installer
    • Read the warning message and push A
    • Select IOS249 to perform the install with D-pad left/right and push A
    • Select to Install Custom IOS 222 and select IOS37 merged with IOS38
    • Wait for download and installation to complete
    • Start HomeBrew Channel and start the cIOS 222 Installer again
    • This time select Custom IOS 223 and select IOS60 merged with IOS38
    • DONE

All you need to do now is follow a tutorial on the wii flow website on how to install it as a channel

You can reinstall Bootmii at any time. Using guides from other sites is fail, use the ones on this site and only this site. Members here usually end up having to help unbrick the consoles that other guides have "helped out".

Installing cIOS38Rev16 as suggested above is also not a good idea for a new user. It's still bugged, reintroduced the DL issue, and doesn't work at all with Neogamma disc loading amongst other things.

There's a 4.2 guide listed below. Follow that guide from beginning to end, reinstalling and overwriting anything you've previously done.

If you purchased the console anytime after or around September of '09 it may contain a d3-2 chip which prevents it from reading backup discs. If this is the case you'll have to load from usb. You can found out by entering your serial# here.

Otherwise, a guide for burning discs using imgburn can be found here: http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-gu...e-backups.html Be sure to use dvd-r media.

thanks for the advice everyone. In between the time I posted this and the time I read the replies, I was able to get NeoGamma running. But I still can't get my iso's burned for some strange reason... most programs won't let me burn at all and imgburn gives me an error at the end of the process... I'll try with different iso's to see.

One quick question, will WiiFlow let me load games from dvd? just wondering as I don't have a usb drive large enough handy to fit a game.

It will let you install a game to your hard drive, but has no way to launch the game from dvd.

Ithian, while following the steps in tutorial in your sig, the link for step B1 requires a password. Would you happen to know what that is?

I'm just redoing this from scratch as even though I got neogamma running finally, and I was able to burn an iso, I keep getting a "Disc cannot be read" message. Which is funny cause when I remove the disc, it asks me to "Please insert ::Game Name:: Disk". So it knows what the game is yet tells me it can't read it...

Is there perhaps an option in Neogamma that I'm not setting up properly? Again, I'd love to use usb loader but I don't have a big enough usb drive

Read the guide again carefully for the pass.

Finish that guide first then try to run games through neogamma. If they still don't work, then come back and report what errors you got..

    Here's a short how-to on burning discs: http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-gu...e-backups.html

ok, so re-did all of this. Neogamma is able to load games from usb but usbloader gx gives me a exception (DSI) occured then stack dump then code dump. Any ideas? Also, I saw somewhere a usb loader that will show you the game covers to select the game you want to play. Any idea what that is?

Manually update usbloader gx to a newer version by placing the new .dol on your sd card using your pc. Might be an incompatibility with the one you're using.

Downloads - usbloader-gui - Project Hosting on Google Code

Also in usb loader press 1 to bring up the cover download window. Wiiflow or CFG USB Loader are also other options for displaying large cover art.
