I really have no idea (Connect24 not on). The drive acts like it powers down when we turn off the Wii, but then will NOT be detected by USB Loader GX the next time we turn on the Wii.

As long as we hold the power button on the HDD down to completely power it off, it's detected just fine.

I don't claim to understand why this is, but if anyone has any ideas, I'm more than willing to try them out.

    Thanks.

Just do not buy the WD 160gb Sata. Not sure how many different models there are, but they will hate doing alot of shit. Mine wont run windows 7 (one in my netbook). And other stuff may occur for all I know.

I'm mentioning this as the best way to have a usb HDD is to buy a HDD (cheaper) and buy a usb jacket for it.

you will get this from most harddrives with external power, ios 38 v14 makes it much better, my seagate freeagent only needs a power cycle every now and again.

its no hardship to cycle the hdd anyway - i really like being able to run games without lifting my fat arse out of the settee.

Any WD Passport or My Book Essentials will have you up in running. I would highly advise wiiflow. Not a big fan of usb loader gx but have that as well.

Be careful with this, usb enclosures have flaky support with the wii.

The WD passport is a no brainer for me, only usb power so no power issues on/off with wii. A bonus is that it's small and sleek too.

It depends on the jacket you buy. I had one that murdered an old HDD of mine. But another works perfectly fine. Dont buy the cheapest jacket, but they are all around cheap eitherway.

    Hi guys

So far most people are really having alot of success with WD HDD's

I was wondering if anyone has this specific HDD working OK, I'm guna get it for my bro n pre-load it for Christmas Day - so needs to be perfect haha

WD - My Passport Essential 500GB - seems fairly new, works perfect with my old MyBook 3.5, but they don't do them no more lol, i'd prefer him to have a 2.5 anyways lol

    Question

I have a WD Passport 160GB (WD1600u017-003) that I cannot get to work either. I formatted the entire drive as FAT32 and the HBC refuses to load the apps. I have to unplug and replug the drive all the time for them to show. I can load the various emulators from the USB drive, but cannot load roms as the drive isn't detected in any of them. FTPii fails to mount. MPlayer CE also cannot see the fat32 partition. However, Wad Manager can mount the USB 2.0 device and install.uninstall wads all day. Triiforce's emulated NAND works from the FAT32 partition. Also, game covers from USB Loader GX work fine from the fat32 partition when I had a WBFS on there before. I am perplexed as to why I must unplug and replug all the time and why the emulators and most other homebrew apps fail to mount the drive. Has anyone figured this out?
