mario galaxy freeze and other issues

Okay I am new to modding wii. I got homebrew on and played alots of games ... i then got a drive to burn my own wii games for backup. I have mario galaxy. i backed it up . Then i moved it to my usb drive. This is the first game i have tried with usb drive. I am using the usb loader that is in the thread modding for wii 3.1 - 4.1 . I used the link there. It is a western digital drive. It was for laptop and just using a adapter to make it usb. I am playing mario galaxy and it works til i get to the princess and the ships are suppose to lift it off the ground. I know this works cause i have used just the backup disk and it plays fine but the video is very slow and choppy ...which i heard is normal if running from disk. So i thought usb drive would nto make it choppy but now i have freeze. Can anyone help or give me insight. Coudl it be my usb adapter ? I am going to copy another game to it and try out also.

It could be your drive, it could be spinning down at the wrong time. Do you have a save game? You could just skip that part and move on. It should work very well from usb, faster than disk- so it is either your adapter or the disk is going to sleep. If you have a thumb drive put the game on it and test it out. If it works it is one of the two mentioned above. Try to find a utility for your disk that will allow you to adjust the spin down settings. The manufacture will usually make these, just grab on for their portable drives and try it out. It could be the adapter, no test for that other than a disk check utility that will graph read speeds.

thanks for your reply... I might just go buy a usb drive ....it is western digital and i download there spin down ulitlity but it only allows you to stop it ? I am loading more games on it now. Since i am new to this ..I just burn the iso and then load them ...4.37 gigs takes a while to move to the external drive ..I know the drive is good cause it is brand new laptop drive ...what would you suggest .... ? I do not have a saved game ..wish i did . I am loading more games on it to see if it is just that game ...this is first time like i said using usb loader gx. I do not mind buying a drive but want to make sure i am not having issues too lol

The program sets the setting in the hd's firmware. Set it on you pc, then those settings go with the drive to your wii. The drive controls it, not the wii.

I am having the exact same issue. It freezes right when the space ship is going to pull the castle out of the ground. Has anyone found a solution to this?

Is it really a HDD spin down problem?

This is from HDD using USB Loader DX.
