A black screen often means that the IOS that is used by the game has not been installed in the Wii. You can run a search for your game or you can check here to see if your game is listed: [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register].

I tried that already well reinstalling Cios, but how could I be missing a required Cios when it was loading perfectly fine and now it gives me a black screen just trying to start the app from homebrew I haven't even choosen a game yet?

USB loader gx not detecting some of my games

ok. so here it goes. I have 3 different usb loader. I have usb loader 1.4, gx, and uloader. I love gx, but it isn't detecting some of the games I have installed. Specifically sonic and the secret rings. every other loader can detect and play the game, except for GX. What is the issue, and how do I fix the damn thing?

USB Loader went through a series of bad revisions after the project team made a change to the tool kit. Try a revision newer than about 805 or so. Avoid the series between 787 and 803.

If you continue to use and occasionally or even frequently update USB Loader GX you will find these little quirks. The project team is very active with several revisions issues daily sometimes. We users just get used to running into occasisonal problems and either find a older revision or wait for a new revision to fix the problem.

First post, so feel free to take it with a grain of salt..

I've had a very similar experience as to what the OP is describing on various rev's of GX. When I was still trying to figure out the differences between the channel wad vs. the forwarder wad I ended up trying out a few different revisions, so here's what I found happens on my system:

-815: Can't get this bugger to work. Black screen every try, regardless of off/on/anti 002 settings.
-686: Worked alright for a while, but only after having to power cycle after usually 2 black screens in a row trying to load a game. Also could not switch from one game to another without a black screen. Sometimes would black screen when changing to systemmenu. Sometimes would black screen when loading Loader GX.
    -785: See rev 815
-713: My golden rev so far. Games seem to work on the first go each time. I was using this rev originally then somehow managed to downgrade myself to 686...I'm THAT good!

Each of these revs were tested as forwarders and as channels as well being loaded in HBC, using cIOS38rev13a and 14 (may not have made a difference but hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained).

I'm on 4.2U firmware, system purchased 2nd q. '08. My suggestion for what you're experiencing would be to try out rev 713, and maybe you'll get some positive results. Hope this helps.

i originally used 713 as well, and it worked every time before i even had an external drive, then i got the external drive, and loaded up usb loader gx. it worked, i copied a game from the wii disk drive to the external drive and it took about a minute, then i shut it all down(habbit) then brought it back up, ran wiiflow and the game loaded up first try, then i wanted to copy another, and i got a black screen-dozens of times, i tried a few different revisions and i finally got rev815 to not go to a black screen, instead, the usb loader gx symbol comes up and it says "ERROR: cIOS could not be loaded!"
    ??
i just want to use usb loader gx to copy or "backup" games, not to run them, i prefer wiiflow, just because of reliability, but wiiflow doesn't copy games.
any help, should i attempt to continue searching for that magic rev that works, or start messing around with my cios, because i know i installed it correctly. idk, any help is good though.

I'd say go ahead and try reinstalling your cIOS rev. I've seen some other posts around and sometimes this can fix some problems. Also don't be afraid to try other revisions. Since that last post I've been sitting on rev12 and haven't had a single game black screen on me, except for the new Super Mario game (until today haha). But yeah, experiment with cIOS revs and see if that helps at all.

    Good luck finding a solution!

actually, like not even one minute after my last post, i realized that wiiflow can install games to the external from the wii drive.
so thanks but im just going to stick to wiiflow, its got the GREATEST interface, its extremely easy to use, and it has not had a problem one time.
you should give it a try, i don't have a link, but i know you know how to use google.

Hey it's funny you mention that - I just downloaded wiiflow yesterday and it's a hoot! That UI is too sexy NOT to use haha.
