I just bought a WD external 1tb hard drive
and my wii is modded system at 4.0 ntsc (usa) wii

what programs do I need to run my isos as wad channels and how do i have to format my hard drive to run the isos?

Second question, you need to download the WBFS manger. Then format two primary partitions on your HDD. Then use WBFS Manager to format one of them. The software will transfer the ISO to WBFS format that the Wii can execute.
