    Disc Load Times

I successfully soft modded by 4.1u Wii the other day running back up copies of Animal Crossing and Smarty Pants, among other games using Neogamma R7 with burned DVD-Rs (Only issue has been Wii Sports Resort but it's not that important to fiddle around with, especially considering I need some accessory).

But after trying "The Price is Right: 2010 Edition" I've become suspicious of load times. I don't know if it's the game itself or these back-up copies but Price is Right has load times almost longer than the small portion of gameplay it loads. Looking online I haven't really been able to find a straight answer as after Price is Right it seems Animal Crossing's load times are a bit long too.

So is it just the game or do back-up copies DO take a bit longer to load and if so, does anyone know the extent of difference?

Also, I've read loading from a USB device is quicker which is starting to sound worth the trouble (Going to need a new HDD if they need to be reformatted and what not). Can anyone report on the difference in load time from a disc backup to a HDD backup?

    Thanks.

I cannot say if the burned dvd's take longer than a usb loader however it might be the type of DVD-R's you are using and the burn speed you used to burn the image at.

If the drive seems to be seeking a lot then that could account for longer loading times. Other times the developers just don't bother to optimise things and think it's ok to have a 60 second loading time, which it is not.

This issue can be seen cross platform too, some examples Turok PC and NFS Shift PC, ridiculous lengthy loading times even on a top end PC. Makes me sad.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

Yeah, I know developers are lazy now a days, especially for the Wii. In fact, I remember even when I rented Smarty Pants and it was annoying as the load times would just take so dang long... Reason I wanted to make this post as if there is no difference, or a minimal one, between loading from a disc or HDD I'd rather stick to discs. Got two stacks of DVD-Rs that I haven't much use for.

As for burning, I'm using imgburn at 2x on TDK 1-16x DVD-R. Everything works, except Wii Sports Resort, just the load times which I actually never thought anything of until Price is Right, can't believe how long it takes for every little thing to load in that game.

The best way to determine if it is your disc is to burn a copy of a retail disc you own. I see no difference in usb load times compared to burned dvd-r times on my system
