2.5" HDD runs when Wii is off - any way to stop?

I have a 2.5 laptop drive in a generic Caddy & all works fine, except that the hard drive still runs even when the Wii is off (I guess the USB ports are still powered, presumably for wired networking).
Is there any way to set the USB port power to be 'off' when the Wii itself is off, so that the HDD doesn't spin 24/7?
    TIA

Is the Wii going to Red light or Yellow Light when you power off?

    It goes to yellow.
I may need to turn 'Wii Connect 24' off - I'll try it when I get home.

Pretty much. WC24 keeps a lot of the Wii powered up so it can recieve updates and what not from N. You can also hold down the power button to perform a hard off.

Or if you are using USB Loader there is a power off button that has a full power down option.

Found the answer - turn off Wii Connect 24 & the wii then goes OFF rather than into STANDBY & the HDD powers down.
