    Question Backups Stop Working After Being Played Once...

    I just finished Softmodding my Wii, installing the programs needed to run backups, and burnt Mario Kart Wii to a Maxell DVD-R disc. I played it once completely fine without a hitch and turned the system off while I went and got some food. When I came back and tried to play Mario Kart, I kept getting DVD Read Error (721). Thinking that it was just a bad burn, I tried the same thing with The Conduit. Worked once, then got the 721 error. I've also tried putting them back in my computer as I've heard stories of the discs deleting the backups, but it still says that the ISO is burnt.

    Anyone run into this issue before and know how to fix it?

    Thanks a ton guys!

    How old is your Wii? The 721 error code can mean that the DVD Laser is giving out or is just dirty. Try a cleaning kit. Hope it works and you don't need a repair.

    A friend of mine was using all brands of DVD-R media for recording. Maxell, Memorex, Sony, etc ... name it, it was used, except for Verbatim.

    This playback was very erratic. In the middle of a perfectly loaded game, dirty disc error.

    Try changing your media and burning at the slowest speed possible.

    @wiitard,
    Glad you got it fixed. Ahhh, children what would we do without them? Could have been worse, I had a friend whose lovely son decided to feed the unit through the DVD slot, just like Daddy fed it, but he used something a bit more nourishing....oatmeal!
