    Strange Issue with USB Loader / Bad Drive

    I think there is something wrong with my dvd drive. Right now it will accept and eject discs fine, but when the system menu comes up with a game in the wii freezes. It's very, very noisy when it does this as well.

    Since my drive appears borked I decided to try out USB Loader GX. It's been semi-working for a few days. I'm running the latest rev (just updated today) as well as the new rev14 cIOS. Here's the strange thing. When I'm in the loader and I try to start a game it's a crapshoot if it works. Sometimes it does, while sometimes I get either a black screen or 'An error has occured. Please push eject ...'. This is without changing any of the game load settings. However, if I insert a disc before I launch a game, the loader works flawlessly every time.

    I'm glad that I can get it to work, but it's definitely less than ideal. I had read that the usb loader did not need working dvd drives to function. Has anyone seen anything like this before, or have any advice on how to troubleshoot this? I am comfortable dissasembling my wii. I'm wondering if there's something I can disconnect or replace on the dvd drive that might help fix this.

    If it helps, I noticed that when i put a game in the loader still prompts me for an install, but if i click yes it tells me 'Cannot read disc'.

    Thanks for any responses!

    I use GX Loader Channel latest 633 and Forwarder on SD at same time and it is brilliant.
    I also have R14 and it now plays any game I have tried.

    Thanks for the feedback, but I'm not so much interested in debating the merits of the loaders as I am understanding why I need a disc in the drive for things to work correctly. If it's just the way the software works that's fine, I can live with it. If it's something faulty with my drive (I'm guessing laser) that I can get around some how I'd like to know about it. It sort of defeats the purpose of the loader when I have to put a disc in before playing and take it out before I go back to the wii menu.

    It sounds like your drive laser may need a clean;
    But this won't stop USB loader loading fro HD;
    Suggest you check what cIOS/IOS are installed;
    You may have to use Any title deleter and do some cleaning.

    usb loader gx does not need discs to load games. the error you are getting sounds like the 002 error. To fix this, click on a game that has the error, don't launch, go into the settings under game load and turn error 002 fix to on. save, then try launching the game. Alot of the games will go into a black screen...will not load. This can be fixed by adjusting the game load settings...experiment and try different things.

    That's what I thought as well. However, I can be in the USB Loader menu, pop in a disc, and run a game just fine with 002 error fix set to OFF. If I try the same thing with no disc in the drive I get a black screen or the error. Aside from that, rev14 of cios 249 is supposed to incorporate a fix for the 002 error.

    That 002 Fix Anti has been around before R14, R14 makes it more compatible for sure, but certain games still require certain IOS to be installed!
