You are most likely using an SD card over 2GB. The Wii is not fully compatible with SD cards over 2GB and this is one of the usual problems people run into.

I thought that maybe it was linked to the new cios because I had read that 13 had issues with USB loaders so I tried to install cios 38 revision 12 instead. It produced the same issue. In fact, I dropped back to cios 36 version 10, which I used before with USB Loader GX r442 with no problems, and r533 had issues recognizing the drive then too.

I really want to move to version 13 of cios but it seems like the latest version of USB Loader GX has a problem with my HDD when earlier versions did not. I am using a 320GB Iomega drive and am on 4.0u firmware. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there any work around or fix that will keep the loader recognizing my drive?

All help is very much appreciated. Thanks.
The latest revision of USB Loader GX is rev921 not rev533. The version you are using is old check out the USB Loader Google code website. You can update by installing the wad via wad manager 1.5 or by replacing the boot.dol in the SD:/apps/usbloader gx with the rev921.dol update. You will have to rename rev921.dol to boot.dol for the update to work. For some reason rev533 does not update its self. You will find that the new version has less compatibility issues and works with Hermes' cIOS 222 v4 and v5. Hit my thanks button if I helped you.
