ISO loader without Modchip?

ok so i have a usb HDD and am thinking of purchasing a wii to use the iso loader stuff.

My first question is will I need to use a mod chip to do this or just the modchannel hack?

My plan would be to have a wii and use my external hard drive to store my games on. Plug the hard drive into the wii use sometype of iso loader and launch my wii games off it. Is this at all possible? I have tried to find it but cant seem to figure out if ths has to have the mod chip or software hack.

Secondly can anyone point me to the best ISO loader to do this with if it is at all possible.

You don't need a modchip.

People use all kinds of different loaders, some based on 1.1, 1.4 and 1.5 of Wanikoko's original loader. If you are just starting out then I'd use the latest 1.5 and take it from there. You can always delete the channel if you don't like it. I quite like Coverflow as my pretty loader but often load Wanikoko's 1.5 as it's quicker to load and find the game I fancy playing.

ok i have allready softmodded my 4.0 wii,

my question is on the USB loader do i just put the ISO (wii game image file) onto the external drive or do the files need to be extracted fromt he ISO to the external drive.

Also am i able to rip games from wii CD drive directly to the External Hard Drive?

You can use 2 methods to populate your Hard Disk.

1) Load iso files directly to your WBFS Hard Disk with a PC program such as WBFS manager which will take your game iso and copy it to your Hard Drive and rather cleverly remove all the junk data. (Some games use only 10% of the available space on the DVD)

2) Rip using your Wii drive by using the + button on the Wiimote or similar (depends on which loader you use). This process can take a while, especially if you have a large collection.

When the iso's are copied to the hd, is the update partition copied or just the game. Should I have any concern about out of region updates when loading from the usb?

I'm no expert but I think it just copies the game segment, however if you come across a game that requires a certain newer IOS to function you may get a blank screen when attempting to load the game.

I haven't tried any out of region games myself but if no updates are copied then there should be no risk of any sneaky out of region updates that could brick your Wii.
