To answer all the CAN I post,
YOU NEED HOMEBREW INSTALLED FIRST
If you have homebrew installed then you can run USBLoader on any setup.
If you do not have Homebrew installed then do a search and read about Homebrew.

Is a mod chip necessary? or can I put the homebrew channel on my wii without it? I can't use the twilight hack either. I don't have the game. Is there another way to put it on my Wii?

Search for bannerbomb and do some reading and no you do not need a chip to install.

USB Loader GX Media Paths

I am using USB loader GX I have the the media paths set to default.

On my SD card i have a images folder at the root this is where the cover path is set to and in that is where all the cover images are.

Then inside that images folder I have a disc folder that's where the disc image path is set to.

No game covers or dvd covers appear when I'm selecting the games.

I know when I had the regular usb loader 1.5 I had a folder at the root of the SD card called usb-loader and it found those images there.

Do I need to do the same for usb loader gx and then change the paths to point to it?

The default folder for GX is images.
You can change it to what ever you like in the GX setting menu.
