Question about CFGloader MOD and DML

I use the CFGloader mod to load both Wii and Gamecube games. I just bought a nice big SDHC card to hold all the gamecube games I need and everything works quite well.

Now the only thing that I don't like is that I need to go to the systems menu on the loader and switch to SD card, at which point it remarks that the NTSC partition (which my USB HDD is formatted as) does not exist, and I have to manually select the FAT partition on the SD card. As a result, switching to the SD card to play gamecube games is a dull multi-step process that I want to avoid.

I do know that the new CFG Loader mod lets me store the gamecube games on the USB drive and launch from it, which copies the files to the SD card if they aren't already there and launches from there. Since all my games are already on the SD card, having all files for all gamecube games on the HDD as well is quite a waste of precious space.

My question is: Does anyone know a good way of saving space on the USB HDD while storing gamecube games on it for easier access? Will the game still launch from the USB HDD section if i delete the ISO file from the HDD (while it still is on the SD card) when I leave the folders and the other files intact?

    Thanks in advance!

I dont honestly know if this will work, but try it! Create your games folder on the hdd w/ appropriate title ids in there. Honestly, I doubt it will work.

Having said that, if you really want to do this and have invested this much time/effort into it, getting a bigger hard drive (so that space is less "precious") would be advisable. I play a couple of my old GC titles via config/mod w/o issue. They live on the hard drive and have gotten copied (once) to the card.

I just tested out my theory and surprisingly, it worked! I made the gameID folders in the "games" folder on the root of the USB drive and put the "sys" folders from the games into them, but not the .ISO files. It works just as I wanted it to: the games are in the USB game list and run fine, yet I save the space for the .ISOs

    Problem solved!

Cool. If you ever decide to throw games on HD, make sure that whatever u have on the sd is backed up... I'm not sure how it handles the usb->sd bit, or if it would delete a title off sd to make room. One would hope not, but .... it might assume you had it on your hard drive
