Different Way of Checking for Burnt Backup Compatibility?

I haven't softmodded my Wii yet. I'd like to, but I want to retain the ability to play burnt backups. I saw the site that tells you you're compatibility based on your serial number. I passed (makes sense, got my Wii the second week of its release). But, since then I have had my Wii serviced by Nintendo. The disc drive was replaced just last year.

How can I tell what it was replaced with and if its compatible with burnt backups? Also, does that affect the boot2 scenario or anything?

    Thanks,
