How do I backup games via my laptop?

I have modded my (mates) Wii using Mauifrogs excellent tutorial. I am now trying to put the games onto the hdd as the Wii disk reader is not working anymore. My laptop doesn't recognise the Wii games though. I am trying to do this with Wii backup manager...

Am I missing something??? Please help!!!

Very few computer DVD drives can read Wii games. Unless you happen to have one of those drives, you're out of luck. Replacing the drive in your wii would likely be as cost effective as getting a pc-based dvd drive that can read a game.

Bugger, guess the only free way would be to mod another mates Wii that has a working disk drive and use his to back the games up then?

You could do that. Or, depending on where you live, it is legal to download the ISO's of games you already have. Be sure to check your local laws before you do that, though.
