PLEASE HELP ME! trying to update usb loader but i keep getting "FILESIZE IS -1 BYTE"
hi, i wonder would anyone be able to help me? i've been playing games off my usb loader gx for awhile now and most games work fine. except warioware, NSMBW. i keep getting "an error has occured. eject disc and power off the console". i've been on a tutorial on this site and it says to update usb loader and gives me a link to the latest wad released on JUL 25. i try using this, but it won't updat nor does it change version.
to summarise, error playing some games. go to update and finds latest version but won't let me download. try to manually put usb loader 4.wad on sd card but it doesn't recognize it. please help?!! i'm a really novice guy when it comes to this. i did this with help from a friend and i have no idea with all this IOS/patches etc.
V2.0c IOS249 (REV 21) this is my current usb loader gx firmware.
i would appreciate a response and would think you are super if you were patient with me!
put the latest version of usb loader gx on sd card. went into wad manager, selected IOS249, opened sd card, clicked on usb loader gx.wad(the latest ver) and it installed a channel on my wii menu. when i click to go into it, it just reutrns to the wii menu as thought i'm exiting it.
do i need to get rid of something? does something need to be on my sd card or HDD?

A not very informative post for your first. NSMB has a guide onto itself, there's a reason for that. That's typical error for someone who's not done what it requires of you. Warioware I suspect may or may not also be relating to your cIOS. You should be using mauifrog's guide which utilizes the much-improved DX2 version of the cIOS.
You could always post a SysCheck in a reply by following directions in this thread.

Neither of those games should really give you any problems. Maybe you have bad rips, try re ripping the originals.
As far as GX goes, the channel you installed is a forwarder. You need to have the app in your apps folder on your usb or sd device (usb:apps/usbloader_gx/boot.dol) for it to work.

sorry mate. i'm not being informative because i have absolutely no clue what i am doing.i've been on youtube, these forums and general search engines for 2 hours looking for a straight forward way to get this problem fixed. it doesn't really help having someone do this for you because when a problem occurs, you don't know what to do!!
i've just clicked your link and don't have a faintest clue how to do a system check. (sigh)... might just go back to playing games legit. it's a hell of alot less work.

that's quite helpful, actually chief. ok, so just to start again with a clean sleet, i've got rid of everything usb gx. off the sd card, the wii so i want to put it on again so i know what i am doing. but i am finding it hard to find the forwarder and the .dol download.

Take a look at my GX Updating guide in my sig. The forwarder and dol is there, along with some helpful instructions on making sure you can run GX 2.2.

i did it!! i think. i've just installed a channel forwarder from filetrip.net forwarder 1.3. but more importantly, i installed a fancier version of usb loader gx. it now says "REV1120 (IOS249 (REV21)" it looks different and says it's up to date.
just loading up mario bros wii now to see if it's sorted.
just wanted to say a big thanks to "SKELLINATOR". i know you probably think you didn't help but just telling me what a loader was has helped me alot. thanks for your help, chief.
i think that has done it. just played mario bros wii for about 6-8 minutes and it didn't come up with an error. many thanks to skellinator and cjizzle!
just a little side question no biggie. in regards to playing games from a loader, where do your save game files go? are they saved on the wii's flash memory, the sd or the HDD? just curious because i think i'm running out of slots. and lastly, is there anyway to keep the games you've played and how long for in "today's accomplishments" on the wii menu?

Game saves are saved on the Wii itself. There is a homebrew app called Savegame Manager that you can use to back up and restore game saves. As far as the "today's accomplishments" question, not a clue how you could accomplish that.
