Hacking my Wii prerequisite information. Bootmii and Priiloader. Pleaseee help!
I am going to be hacking my Wii and I have read lots of info about it. The thing that I am curious about is that one of the articles here says that if my Wii can't install BootMii as boot2, I will have to install it as an IOS.
In another section of that same article, it says that I should install Priiloader if I can't install BootMii as boot2.
So if I can't install BootMii as boot2, do I install BootMii as an IOS or Priiloader as an IOS?
Which is better for anti-brick protection?
Should I have both?
I have a Wii System Menu of 4.3E if it is useful.
Both are recommended to be installed. Priiloader should be thought of as more a brick prevention mechanism. It can fix certain bricks (banner brick for one) by preserving access to HBC. BootMii/boot2 is purely a brick fixer (other than making that mandatory backup NAND image which allows for the fix should there be a need). If that Wii is relatively new, IOS install will be the only option and BootMii will install in such a fashion automatically. 4.3E could be new, or an older Wii that was updated --- you don't mention its age.
Sorry for not mentioning its age. I am buying one of eBay so I can keep my current Wii and experiment with the eBay one by programming, hacking, etc. That is why I am not sure about the age.
OK, so say that the Wii I am buying is a fairly new one. Priiloader is my best bet for anti-brick protection right?
And if it is good to install BootMii as an IOS as well, what does BootMii as an IOS do?
One more question, where do I get the latest version of Priiloader?
I am going to be using the LetterBomb hack if it is useful to know.
Yes. Enables a NAND programmer to recover your Wii (not free, but cheaper than a Wii --- Krafter, Bad_Ad, streamline, Emuhack all do this service). And yes, make the backup of your NAND via bootmii. If you don't and you hard brick it, there will be absolutely no means of recovery. Follow mauifrog's guide for Priiloader and letterbomb stuff, it's in there.
