Thread: Help modifying my HBC

    Help modifying my HBC

Well, I am getting the hang of this, but I have come upon some things I need some help with. I have searched and read many pages, but I can't get it yet.

I used Mauifrog's guide to mod my wii, and then the FAT32 guide to setup my USB drive. I loaded some of my games onot the USB - without dumping the BCA. While I did find what the BCA is/does for some games, I could not find what was recommended for most loading.

I even downloaded a program from the HBB - KidsPaint to test that out.

Everything is working fine, and I even changed it to boot directly to the USB loader. I just want to add some programs to the HBC and change my USB loader to WiiFlow.

So, i took my SD card as it was from the last step on mauifrog's guide and copied some apps that I wanted back on the card. WiiBackup Manager, PriiLoader but I only have the .dol for WiiFlow, so I could not just copy the directory over. The directions on WiiFloWiki are not that clear to me at this point. They seem mostly about preparing the Wii for WiiFlow, but not actually installing it. - But I could be wrong.

Anyway, when I did that and put the SD back in the Wii, PriiLoader showed up on the HBC, but not the WiiBackup Manager. And when I try to run PriiLoader, it tries to load, but does not find the password file and quits back to the HBC.

I did not make any changes to my USB drive yet, only the SD card.[spoiler]

What do I need to do to get PriiLoader working again and switch over to WiiFlow?

Well, I am working through this and now can reliably get to my PriiLoader by holding down the reset while powering on the Wii.

But, i can't get BootMii to work. it says it cannot find fat:/bootmii/armboot.bin.

    Searching for that now...

And back to the WiiFlow issue...

I also tried to get WiiFlow working from

    For installing/loading a .dol
    1. Download the .dol for the app of your choice and place it on the root of your sd card. Insert you sd card into the wii.

    2. Load Priiloader/Preloader (hold Reset While Booting)

    3. Select Load/Install .dol

    4. From there you may select from the .dol files on the root of your sd card
    a. To Load a .dol select and press 2.
    b. To install a .dol select and press A.

You can autoboot a installed .dol on boot up.

I tried that with the r416-pre.dol file and after doing it, the Wii would not boot. Just a blck screen.

I had to do a hard power off, then change back to the CFG usb loader to get back to a working system.

What effect will not being able to run BootMii? I have been reading the WiiFlow guide, but I can't seem to decide which of the 3installation methods I want to use.

Is this the right forum for this?

If we go back to one of my original questions regarding WiiBackupManager. I copied it to sd:\apps\wiibackupmanager

But, it does not appear on the list.

Wii backup manager is a pc app, not wii.
Bootmii needs the bootmii folder on your sd/usb to run. If you do not have the folder you can re run hackmii installer and it will prepare your card with the appropriate files needed.
The .dol is all you really need for wiiflow to run, put in in a folder within your apps folder and it will show up on hbc. It will be a blank image though. We have a wiiflow guide and it has links to the latest versions for you.
Priiloader is not needed in your apps folder once you install it onto the wii. If you want to launch priiloader just hold the reset button while powering up the wii. If priiloder does not come up then you did not install it.

Thanks for the tips. I am trying to understand what each step does( load 222 this and 224 that, etc), and I guess I am still a little under water. I have been avoiding using the step by step guides again in hopes of keeping what I have on my sd card and just adding things or changing the parts that don't work.

I have copied my sd file structure to my pc and will re-run the hackmii installer as a starting point and try to get my card structured again with the stuff I want. Will I need to keep the hackmii stuff on the card, or will it be like priiloader and stay on the wii?

I am not home to double check right now, but I am surprised that I did not notice the backup mgr was pc based. It seemed to have a similar file structure as the other downloads that I copied to the SD, but that explains why it will not work. I do not even know what I was hoping to do with it other than to just get a listing of the games I have on my HDD. Maybe I can do that when I get WiiFlow running.

Thanks for the tips I will give them a shot later.

Working on the hackmii installer, and I guess I am dense if everybody else is understanding it, but not me. As there are no actual instructions on the download site or readme file, I guess it is implied.

but in an effort to help others I will detail what I did -

Previously, I did have the boot.elf file in my sd root, but nothing else. So I removed it from the root before proceeding.

Just extract the downloaded directory hackmii_installer_v0.8 and all the subdirectories and files to the apps directory on the sd card. It should then appear on your HomeBrew channel.

I got to that by booting my wii to the PriiLoader then choosing the HomeBrew Channel. I then had the option for the HackMii Installer.

Now, when i ran mine, it told me that BootMii can only be installed as an ios. The installed boot1 version prevents a boot2 install(-2) - whatever that means. I guess that just means my Wii version is too new to get BootMii as the boot2 - correct?

Anyway, i have done it and now will work on the WiiFlow

Well, I moved the r416-pre.dol from the sd root to a new wiiflow directory in apps. And that did not show up on my HomeBrew.

So I downloaded 2.1a2 cIOS 249 version which gave me apps\wiiflow and \wiiflow directories.

And the directions for the forwarder installation...
Once you have installed the necessary wad file, your folder structure must match the list below.

Forwarder looks for these exact paths (in this order):
    * SD:\apps\wiiflow\boot.dol
    * SD:\wiiflow\boot.dol
However, the \wiiflow\boot.dol file was not in the extracted directory, so I manually copied it from the apps\wiiflow directory

    SUCCESS!!!! - well, partially...

I can get to WiiFlow via the homebrew channel. But if I just let the Wii boot, I still get the old USB loader.

I need to change that. But more concerning is the fact that I hope that I can get all of the games I loaded with the configurable usb loader to be recognized in WiiFlow. I did not anticipate that. If I can get those two things done, I think I will have this handled pretty well.

While the Wii is booting up hold the 'Reset Button' on the console. It'll go into Priiloader. Go into settings. Change Autoboot to System Menu and the Return to option to System Menu. Press Save. It should know, when the Wii is rebooted, go to the SM.
