There’s A Wii Problem At Nintendo?

In a report describing which companies employees are losing hope, Nintendo came in number six. The report from alleges it’s employees have lost faith in Nintendo due to the drop in sales. And with both Android phones and Apple’s mega selling iPad and iPhone eating up the majority of hand held gaming sales you can understand how life there is looking bleak.
    Here is the article:
    6. Nintendo’s once nearly insurmountable lead in the video console sector has been lost, and its sales have fallen further and further behind rivals Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Sony (NYSE: SNE). The rise of the Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android operating system has also encouraged video game publishers to make more products that run on that platform. The 2010 market share of Nintendo DS fell from 70% in 2009 to 57%. Nintendo’s growth has also been damaged by the rise of the iPad and iPhone. The future is even grimmer. “iSuppli predicts Nintendo will sell 70 million 3DS gaming systems by 2015, a figure that is 21 million less than the 91 million in sales racked up by the original DS at the same point in its sales cycle,” according to the Unofficial Apple Weblog. Nintendo announced an unexpected quarterly loss on July 28 and its shares plunged 20%. The stock is down from a 52-week high of 26,780 yen to 11,850 yen. In late 2007, shares reached 80,000 yen.”
At its’ core this article is ridiculous just on the fact they are trying to measure what companies employees are losing hope, something that could never be measured. Nintendo is not in as much trouble as this article tries to makes you believe they are; however if the Nintendo Wii U is an out right failure (could be but probably not) Nintendo might be in trouble.
I mean Nintendo is to this day still sleeping on piles of money earned from the Nintendo Wii, so they can make a few mistakes and still recover. Do you think Nintendo is in trouble or are they just going through one of their famous slow periods?

This is an interesting article, but I don't think Nintendo is actually in trouble. Like the article said, they have pretty deep reserves of cash. On the other hand if they make the right games for the Wii U, it will probably be a guaranteed hit. We all know true HD versions of the better Wii/GC games will be very successful. I personally would love to see an HD Zelda, Metroid, Phantasy Star, Fire Emblem, Mario, Tales of xxx, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, PikMin, GoldenEye, or Sin & Punishment. If just half of those games were announced/released, I'd happily buy a Wii U.... not to mention most of the big budget multi-platform games will make it to the Wii U along with the PS360.... Batman Arkam City anyone?
