Ca Problems getting HBC, CFG_USB_Loader, WiiBackupManager to work - thorough description

OK, first post here, so tried to be thorough with providing info for you to help me and I really have done a lot on my own for a first timer me thinks.

System - Wii 4.3U, with main alterations as
    - priiloader .7
    - HBC 1.08 & HacMii/BootMii .8 via LetterBomb
    - CFG-USB-Loader 70
    - IOS 236,222,223,224,246,247,248,249,250 modifed using latest versions - see more details on IOS etc below at end of this book
    - 4Gb SDHC Panasonic card
    - a hardwired (not wireless) network connection to the Wii
    - 750Gb external USB drive with 32Gb FAT32 partition set as active (labeled WiiFAT32 as letter V on Windows) and remainder as NTFS partition (labeled as WiiNTFS as letter W on Windows) with a \wbfs partition.
    - computer using Windows XPPro SP3 and SD card reader
    - always the latest version were searched for and used of any tools, patches, etc

I have made a NAND backup dump.

Where I want to get to is having 2 partitions on the USB external drive as listed above, and have all of the stuff you would 'normally' have on your SD card on the WiiFAT32 partition, then store Wii games on the WiiNTFS partition in the wbfs folder. Once all the games are copied from the Wii discs I have onto the wbfs, then I won't have to mess with the discs again. I would like to install the CFG_USB_Loader and FCEUGX and Snes9xgx as a channels, but need to solve some things first - see below.

But after many, many hours, I still can't seem to get it quite working and ask for lots of help. And yes, I genuinely own the games/roms I am using.

Formerly I had the USB external drive formatted as one whole WBFS partition and was using WBFSManager 4.0 to access it from Windows.
CFG-USB_Loader v60b4 was on the SDHC card and was working fine to play my disc backups or to copy then to the WBFS partition on the USB external drive.

    HBC & channels questions:

Trying to use either of MultiModManager or WadManager 1.7 or YetAnotherWadManager all give the error of error mounting SD [-1], yet obviously they are running from the SD. If I select USB device the error is the same, but with [-2]. Yet you can see from the Syscheck and etc logs below that the SD is mounted. Running a windows scandisk/scan sector/fix errors/etc on the SD card showed no errors. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

I was under the impression that once HBC was installed, you could actually not even have a SD card, that you could put all the HBC apps, etc on the FAT32 partition and run everything from there. Is that correct, because I can't seem to get it to work that way?
I push '1' once HBC has started to go into options and, when there is a USB drive connected, I can select, then hit 'OK', but it never 'remembers' that it is now supposed to be USB drive, and although the USB drive light blinks a few times, nothing ever starts. The USB drive *is* working as I can run games from it with CFG_USB_Loader. The result is the same even when there is no SD card in the Wii. How do I resolve this?

First I was using the SD card and downloaded lots of apps/games, even FCEUGX and Snes9xgx emulators and roms (of games I already own), as well as CFG_USB_Loader. That worked fine. I even used the FCEUGX and Snes9xgx install as channel HBC apps and that worked nicely.
Then I simply copied them from the SD card to the root USB WiiFAT32 drive, but without the SD card in HBC can not find anything at all. Leaving the SD card in the Wii with only the CFG_USB_Loader in apps allows access to CFG_USB_Loader and it reads its setting/config/meta from the WiiFAT32 partition, but only apps that are in the SD card are known about, nothing on the WiiFAT32 USB drive partition.

Trying to run the FCEUGX and Snes9xgx channels no longer works. The Snex9xgx simply crashes and the Wii reboots. When the SD card was in, it would work but could not know about the USB drive, simply saying not USB drive. The FECUGX doesn't crash, but it simply will not ever find any USB drive. How do I fix this? Maybe the channels need to be removed then the installers need be run again from where they are located on the WiiFAT32 partition, once that is accessible?

I'd like to have the other emulators, like the SGEN, as channels also, once these other problem are solved - how do I do that?

When you start an app like the Snex9xgx from within the HBC or thru a channel, you are presented with a menu with a choice of returning to the Wii menu or starting the app. Of course I want to start the app, that's why I clicked it. Is there a way to eliminate the "Start" question or just auto click it?

    Wii Backup Manager questions:

It is my understanding that only Wii Backup Manager and Wii Game Manager will read games on FAT32/NTFS partition, so that rules out the WBFSManager 3.0.1 or 4.0. Wii Backup Manager 0.3.8.61 keeps crashing in the middle of operations, so I tried Wii Game Manager 1.5.0.2 but that didn't seem to copy as well.

I would prefer to have the games stored as compacted or trimmed ISO's on the wbfs folder in WiiNTFS partition, but I can't figure out how to do that. It seems no matter which options I select, either manager makes them into .wbfs files. Is that the way it has to be, or am I missing something?

I had been using WiiScrubber140Multiboot to remove excess space and update partitions from discs, but is this redundant if using something like Wii Backup Manager? YES

Also, I'm not clear - does the Wii Backup Manager strip the update partition from the image when it copies it to the wbfs folder in WiiNTFS partition and makes it a .wbfs? YES

Is there a good site for explaining the options settings for Wii Backup Manager, as I'm not sure I understand every option.

    CFG_USB_Loader questions:

When using CFG-USB_Loader, with a game inserted into the Wii to copy it to the wbfs folder in WiiNTFS partition, will that work? I have read some comments that the copy feature won't work when copying to a NTFS drive (only FAT32), but others have stated that in v70 it will.

When running CFG_USB_Loader and trying to use things like get covers (all or missing or...) it crashes. A console 'mode' opens and text scrolls past so fast you can only glimpse that it does seem to be reaching out to get images, but then a 'dump' occurs with errors as

    [spoiler]
    Exception (DSI) occured

    Stack Dump:
    80a8eee0 -> 80a8eed0 -> 80ade664 -> 80aa85b0 -> 80aa8844 -> 80aa892c -> 80aa64d4 -> 80aa71b07 -> 80aaff78
or the last 3 addresses are different each time:
    80a8eee0 -> 80a8eed0 -> 80ade664 -> 80aa85b0 -> 80aa8844 -> 80aa892c -> 80aa8b1c -> 80ae15eo -> 80ad8154

What is the solution to this?[/spoiler]

It seems CFG_USB_Loader will only recognize images as .iso or .wbfs *AND* only when they have a ID in them, such as "Ivy The Kiwi [RIVP99].wbfs". Is this correct? I had tried using .ciso or trimmed .iso or full size .iso, but CFG_USB_Loader would not pick up on them.

CFG_USB_Loader return_to_channel = UXCF is supposed to cause it to return to the CFG_USB_Loader, but right now I get an error, but I think that's because it's not yet installed as a channel.

CFG_USB_Loader is set in both the meta and other settings/config files to use IOS248, yet still tries IOS249 first. I had to install IOS249 (after updating to 4.3 wiped it out) to get CFG_USB_Loader to start at all.

On some games, I get this error:
wbfs - error - not a Wii game ID mismatch [SFE52] [ciso]
What does this mean and how do I fix it?

CFG_USB_Loader even though set to choose FAT1 as it's first device, which would be my WiiFAT32 partition, calls it NTFS1 and thinks it's sd: ntfs: 1 and thinks the first/only actual NTFS partition on there, WiiNTFS, is NTFS2. What is wrong?

hmmm, I hadn't thought of mobile users. I was just trying to be thorough and provide all the info I could so that helpers wouldn't have to play the ask 20 questions to extract info they need to help. What do you suggest?

I actually am trying what Brian says. In fact, in about an hour I'll be heading out to buy a 2Gb SD card. I'm already copying the contents of both partitions of the external drive onto my internal computer drives so I can re-format it all as FAT32.

In Firefox6 the mauis guide page opens blank, although other threads open fine - not sure what that's about so I going to get Chrome/Opera and try, and I'm just saying that to indicate that I am listening and trying. I'm not sure if I'm reading your/Brian's tone correctly, but it seemed as if it was thought that I hadn't put any effort in, and that's not correct.

I have done a lot of reading and even though I'm not sure how/why Brian's help will fix the issues I'm having, I *am* listening to experience and going to try it and report back, as well as other advice/replies that are posted.

I had tried already the ModMii and manually doing things, and documenting so I could accurately ask for help if needed, so what I don't get is complaints that there is too much info. So are you guys saying it is better to be vague, incomplete, and use poor grammar/typing so others have to try and interpret what's being said? I thought it would be professional and courteous to NOT waste your expertise/time by providing all possible info in the post. It may be that one individual doesn't have all the answers but replies to only the part(s) of the posts that s/he knows the answer for.

Hey, I'm new, so I don't know how Brian did that edit that put the logs into the collapsible fields, or I would have done it initially.
    Thanks.
