Thread: USB loaders no longer detect my HD

    USB loaders no longer detect my HD

    Hey guys,

    I used to play my games through the HD with USB Loader GX. At some point, my HD would no longer be recognized.

    I use a WD My Passport Essential 320GB which used to work great. It works in a friend of mine's Wii. I also brought his Samsung HD to my Wii (it works on his Wii fine) and that one also did not work.

    I found this post which looked quite similar to my problem: http://www.wiihacks.com/software-bac...d-anymore.html

    But his solution of plugging something into slot 1 does not work for me.

    With USB Loader, I used to get the "Waiting for your slow usb device" which would do nothing for 30 seconds.

    I recently tried the "Softmod any Wii guide"
    This one: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html
    And then I used the "Update all your IOS's" because SysCheck would hang in IOS9 without it.
    This one: http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-gu...your-ioss.html

    I've tried CFGLoader with many configurations and all I get is:
    "Device is not responding!
    Make sure USB port 0 is used!"

    It will wait for 90 seconds and then I get:
    "ERROR! (ret = -1)
    Press any button to restart..."

    Any help?

    My sysCheck:

    @Slimercanada:
    Does anyone know any other test I could do to check if this specific USB port is working? Both hard drives I checked get powered on when I plug them in, so I would need some other way of checking.

    @bmario:
    I have read that post before. This is what is mentioned:

    -1:
    SD/USB Loader Error: Hardware not recognized. Most likely have a cIOS installed incorrectly, out of date, or missing. Possibly formatted the SD card or USB incorrectly, is unsupported, or not enough space.
    Q. I have formatted the device correctly but I am still getting this error; how would i fix this?
    A. Be sure to have the device hooked up to the Wii before you power it on. You may lack USB support as well. Installing cIOS38rev14+ would clear this up.(cIOS38rev17+)
    I'm ruling out the "possibly formatted the usb incorrectly, is unsupported, or not enough space". As I mentioned before, I tried my Wii with two USB HDs that work great with a friend of mine's Wii and they both work great and run all my backups.

    Therefore, it leaves me with the option of having "a cIOS installed incorrectly, out of date, or missing". I actually tried installing cIOS38rev17 before and it would still not recognize my HD. Tonight, I will try installing both cIOS38rev17 and cIOS38rev19 and I will check the HD with each one installed and post sysChecks for each.

    BTW, I also tried loading it with 222-mload and nothing worked.

    Could it really be the USB is dead? How can I check this?

    hey victoitor. Not sure if NTSC/ Pal consoles are different IOS /CIOS I understand the region versions are unique. I have just updated my sons 4.1E it was modded a while back, It is now running on ios 58 I followed mauifrogs mod guide, Then I install cios249[57]-v20 wad. I see you are running on IOS 38 not sure if that makes a lot of difference, I use CFG forwarder UCXF - IOS58 V9b.wad.

    I can't find a guide to install IOS249rev20. I still need to try that one. Does anyone have a nice guide for that one?

    Also, does anyone know of another way for me to test this port to see if the hardware works? Does anyone know how to run with the HD in the other USB port?

    Looks like you went a little crazy on the cios slots. Just update your cios with maui's softmod any wii guide.

    Your homebrew should be running on ios 58, which like the system check shows, is for USB 2.0. If you run the hackmii installer and install homebrew again it will run on 58. I suspect that might solve some issues.

    Hey bud I use wad manager 1.7 and install the 249 57 rev 20 wad works every time for me. I'm sure you need at least 19 or 20 for use with hdd. http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-gu...cios-wads.html have a look here and you should find some help.
