The Reason PimpMyWii = BrickMyWii, I think I Found Out Why.
Well after watching how PimpMyWii works, I think I know now why it does so much damage to a Wii
Simply put, PimpMyWii believes that ALL IOS's should be at the latest version, it DOES NOT check to see if they are stubbed IOS's
For example a 4.1 Wii with IOS60 (rev 6174) runs PimpMyWii. PMW thinks that rev 6174 is outdated, so it decides to update to 6440 - which is STUBBED, i.e. BLACK SCREEN
Or a 3.2 wii with IOS30 rev1040. PMW thinks it should update to Rev 2816
It falsely believe that IOS56 and IOS57 have no Trucha exploit installed and that it needs to be Trucha Signed, and to my knowledge they can't(?)
I am still studying the program to see what else it does that makes it noteworthy to avoid. It seems that some people think that it is a quick and easy way to softmod or update when it in fact, can stub critical IOS's and leave the system non-operational.
This is something a lot of new people need to understand about the program, because these "bugs" in the program will affect everyone, it's not just a random slip up.

That's part of it; I'm still wondering why you're investigating that instead of following mauifrog's guide as previously discussed (unless this is simply an intellectual exercise while you're awaiting your replacement Wii).
I thing that should completely removed from the scene, and the creator banned from all forums unless he/she admit that its not safe to use it and apologize to everyone in the scene and remove all links to it and so... IMO

LOL, nightstah, I am going to go with the latter part of your statement. I am doing the research to hopefully get others to see the light of how horrible this "app" is.
