Hi from down south
Let me tell you a little about myself. I was one of the "crazy" people that stood in line the day before the Wii was released but I got one! I have never been a hardcore gamer but do like to play from time to time. I still have some legacy systems with games like Atari 2600, original NES, original SNES, original GameBoy, GameBoy advance, Dreamcast, and PS2. I followed the Wii for many months prior to it's launch and wanted it from day one.
Once I obtained my Wii, I quickly found that I needed a way to backup my games so I could store the originals in a safe place. A place that the kids couldn't get their hands on it and destroy the original! So I did alot of homework and ended up eventually getting a WiiKey but very soon upgraded to a D2Sun. For the longest I have been able to play my backups of the original games and the kids like that very much since I don't yell at them anymore for touching the discs.
Fast forward a year or three. I found out about the Wode device and thought it would make our lives SO much simpler with not having to actually change disks. This was becoming a near necessity due to our Wii's dvd drive starting to error out in the middle of a game. I did not want to have to buy a new drive and it is well out of any warranty. The only thing that made me hesitate buying the Wode was the price. That and I just knew there had to be a cheaper option. Not that the Wode is too expensive, just we don't have much money to spend on it. So I did a little searching and found out about soft modding. After much reading I followed mauifrog's writeup on softmodding the 4.3u Wii's and within a few hours I was ripping my original games to a USB drive! No more having to manually load games!!! No worrying if the drive is going to fail reading a disc halfway through a game. That made the kids, wife, and me happy beyond no belief. So now I have my originals still put in a safe place in case the usb drive fails and all is well with the world.
The next thing I want to look into doing is loading wiiware from usb so I don't burn out my NAND memory too soon. I am reading up on that now and hope to have it working in the next week or so.
So that is my little ditty.
