My stupid GC Backups dillemma.
I feel like an idiot.
So, I've been browsing this site for years, but just recently created an account and I have decided to post about what I just went through.
I homebrew'd my wii way back when homebrew was new, got GC backups working and everything. I stopped playing my wii a while ago and just recently started it back up, started updating homebrew, blah blah.
Anyway, I was still able to load Wind Waker (I've decided to do 100% item completion on all the Zelda games in preparation for Skyward Sword) last night. After I tried opening dungeon maps (I forgot they don't work on the GC backups for some reason), I decided to stop playing until tomorrow.
So, about an hour and a half ago, I tried to run it and got that green flashy screen of error. I thought, dammit, I don't want to have to go through a bunch of stuff to get it working. I installed a BUNCH of different GC backup loaders, installed different cMIOS versions, even installed different cIOSX (I didn't know where else to go, why not?). About 15 minutes ago, I got an idea.
Turns out, the disc was dirty.
"Recently created an account" --- February, 2010 is "recent"? Of course, Stomp's got a guide for GC backups --- but I see absolutely no question being asked whatsoever here.
A dirty disc got you to update your softmods? nice
I would go with NeoGamma for playing GC backups, it has better compatibility than the older GC backup launchers.
Oh derp. I guess it was a different forum.
Anyway. my dilemma was the gamecube loader wouldn't work and the game was dirty. I don't have any questions and I am using the neogamma loader. I just feel stupid because I spent an hour and a half on a 20 second problem.
Don't feel bad, I'll bet you're not the first one to do that.
