3.55 KMEAW CFW + multiman/gaia manager working with backups :)

    you can now play backups with 3.55 using KMEAWS 355 CFW (no jailbreak device needed)

    backup managers; multiman and gaia manager working fine for me to play backups from internal HDD and external USB HDD (fat32 formatted)

    Source:
    PS3 Hacks
    PSX-SCENE

    credit for this guide goes to them and to KMEAW for his CFW; Deank for his awesome app MULTIMAN; and finally drizztbsd for his Gaia manager app

    GUIDE:
1. Make sure your PS3 is on 3.55 firmware

    2. download this Dashhacks :: PS3-Hacks :: kmeaw's 3.55 CFW Patched PUP

    3. unzip and place this file on a usb flash drive thats formatted to fat32, on the flash drive make a folder called PS3 then in that folder make a new folder called UPDATE then place the PS3UPDAT.PUP there

    should look like this;

    usb:/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP (folder names have to use CAPITALS)

    4. Install in service mode;

    SERVICE MODE GUIDE: turn ur ps3 off then hold the power button down, keep holding it down until it turns on then off, then let go then again hold it down and keep holding it down it will turn on and beep once then beep twice after it beeps twice let go of the power button and your in service mode, you have to use a ps3 controller with the usb charging cord attached then put you flash drive in with the custom firmware and install it... be patient it takes a while

    5. download and install a Backup manager: I recommend Multiman!!!

    ***6. BDEMU.pkg download and install this to make newer versions of multiman work http://psx-scene.com/forums/attachme...bdmv-bdemu-zip

    heres a link to multiman multiMAN - multiMAN - multifunctional tool for your PS3 (Game manager/File manager/FTP/AVCHD/BDMV) - PSX-SCENE: The oldest and most trusted Playstation Scene Community

    and GAIA manager Gaia Manager v2.04 - PSX-SCENE: The oldest and most trusted Playstation Scene Community

    to install the backup managers just put them on the root of you flash drive (unzipped) and install with the new INSTALL PACKAGE option under GAME in XMB

    ***u can back games up to an external usb drive but it has to be fat32 and if the game has files over 4gb in size it gets split and u cant play split games, you have to copy it back to the internal drive to play it....
***This only works with firmware version 3.55 or lower if you have 3.56+ there is no way to downgrade yet***

    1st update to 3.55 ofw (sony original firmware)

    2nd then install KMEAW 355 CFW (custom firmware) in RECOVERY MODE

    3rd then install your backup manager (i recommend Multiman or Gaia manager their latest versions have syscall36 included so you dont need to run any lv2.pkg)

    now that sony has released 3.56 firmware you cant login to PSN without updating to 3.56 so yes online play is affected....

    although apparently there is some dns trick to still allow you to play online with 3.55 but i dont know it only read about it in another forum, and seeing as i dont play online it doesnt effect me

    Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents the dns settings are 67.202.81.137 everything else stays default for your ISP. It was somewhat difficult to find so I thought I'd help out some peeps any questions feel free.
