Red Wii: Softmod or Hardmod?
Alright, so I searched around and only saw two threads that talked about the "Red Wii". Both stated that you could not do a hardmod because of the chipset or drive (it being a D3 or D4), however on the Wii Drive website it gave a list of modchips that are compatible with this model. (It said "There is a 50% chance the chipset is GC2-D4 on a smaller drive board. And there is also a 50% chance the chipset is Combined GC2-D3 with no drive chip.")
So I am a little confused as to what I should do. I could always softmod, but I would prefer to hardmod simply because of the the fact that it's easy to remove if you need to use the warranty and because it's recommended for newbs.
I just wanted to check and make sure that the Red Wiis (4.3U) COULD NOT be used with a modchip and that softmodding is the only way, or best way to go.
And one other general question. Can you use an SD card as your primary backup loader? I see info on USB loading and using a disk, but not much on SD. Would it be wise to go ahead and purchase a HD? How big are the backup files in general? I planned on using an 8GB SD card.
4.7 ish gig for a game
wode or sundriver are the only hardmods that will work the load from hdd
softmoddin is the way 2 go
Oh wow. 4.7 gigs is A LOT. I guess I'll be going with a HD. I'm used to using DS game backups which are like 56-160mb. D;. Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just go ahead and go with softmod.
