Thread: Problems with USB Loader GX

1. #1

Thumbs up [SOLVED] Problems with USB Loader GX

Problem solved, it was because of HDD not being compatible!
I think the title says it all. Just softmodded my Black Wii with ShadowSonic2's "Softmod for ANY 4.2 Wii!".

I finished all the steps in the tut, except Installing Bootmii as boot2 (so i didn't backupped my Wii's NAND).

After finishing everything, I also followed the tutorial for getting my HDD/USB ready for the loader. I did exactly as told in the tutorial from Gen3SF (link).

I installed Loader GX as a channel (.wad file). I can open the Loader, and than it says "Waiting for your slow usb device" and starts with countdown.

When I connect my USB drive (SanDisk micro cruzer 4gb), the countdown stops/freezes, it doesn't do or say anything.

If I pull the stick out, it's says "USB device not found" and i have two options: 1. cIOS249 and cIOS222 (if I remember correctly). When I choose one of the two, it starts countdowning again. When I put my USB drive back in, the countdown stops again -_-''

Anyone know what the problem is? I also tried CFG Loader from HBC, but it wouldn't even start, the screen just goes blank and waits.

Information about my Wii:
*4.2 System Menu
*cIOS249-rev17
*Priiloader v0.4 (rev78)
*USB_Loader_GX_r938.wad
*All the other things in the tut, except BootMii as boot2

PS: usb stick = Sandisk Cruzer Micro 4gb
This one isn't on the WiiHacks.com list, but is listed as working on wiki.gbatemp.net

PSS: Someone experienced this with non-compatible usb devices? Maybe my install is just not good.
New problem (yea, im serious ):
Now that I have a fully compatible HDD, I run into another problem.

If I load a game from my HDD, It just freezes when it's about to load. It doesn't matter which loader I use (Loader GX, CFG Loader, WiiFlow). Is this something with the partitions on my HDD or something else?

Thanks in advance

BTW, got 3 partitions:
1. NTFS (full of movie/music/documents/downloads)
2. FAT32 (dunno why I made this, it was in the tutorial, maybe to replace SD card?)
3. WBFS (for the games, doh!)
LAST:
@Cile

Well sir, it turned out good. First I updated from cIOS249 rev17 to rev19 (because I read that rev17 doesn't work well with FAT32 nor NTFS.
I made two partitions, FAT32 and NTFS. Put all the needed files with WiiBackup Manager to the FAT32 parition. And what do you know, it works!

Thanks for setting me in the right direction. If I learned one thing from this, is that you need to READ and DONT RUSH. Because then you'll overlook couple of things

Once again, thank you WiiHacks community.

your usb stick may not be compatible, or maybe it is formatted wrong.

You should still make a copy of your nand, it could be used as a last resort by a nand programmer if the need arises.

Yea, but since, I can't install BootMii as boot2 (I think I installed it as IOS), I think I don't need it, because if I end up bricking it, there is no way back right? Because of no boot2 version of BootMii.

Btw, I have another HDD, a 3,5 WD Elements 1,5TB. But it's full of data (movies et cetera), so I'm a bit hold off. Maybe I'll give it a try, by partitioning it. Thanks for the tips.

Different ideas?

Wii Compatible USB HDD's - AfterDawn: Forums

you could not do anyhting with the nand backup due to lack of boot2. If you were to fully brick, someone with the right tools and know how could use it to fix your wii.

I think I don't need it
Yes you do need it. Make the backup and keep it safe.

This is one of the biggest mistakes people make. If you fully brick your wii the ONLY way you can fix it is with that backup.
Damn I suck!!!!

@Krank & Skellinator

I thought it wasn't possible so thats why I thought like that. I will now definitly make a back-up. Thanks for the tips, I really appreciate it.

May sound silly but did you try both USB ports when you were trying GX? I believe it uses the port on the left if its standing up and the bottom port when laying down. Do you connect your USB drive before you start GX or after it starts? Put the drive in first and then start GX. You may have already did that but eh, i tried...

Yea I tried both ports. Btw, I also tried some different loaders (CFG) from HBC. And for using FAT32 or NTFS, I remember i read that you need cIOS249 rev 18 at least. I have rev 17. Should I update?

Thumbs up Update

***********************
UPDATE:
It was because of my USB drive. It wasn't supported I guess.

I partitioned my 3,5 WD Essential 1,5tb HDD, and all the loaders now find the WBFS partition and games!

But I have a new problem now: whenever I select a game (whatever loader I use), It start to load, but then it freezes. I never made it into a game.

The two games I tried are Kirby's Epic Yarn & Super Mario All-Stars.

I will try other games and report back here.

Really appreciate the help, thanks guys.

UPDATE: also tried Mario & Sonic At The Olympics and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but still no dice. When it is about to load, it just freezes. Also ripped a game from original DVD to HDD, but that also yielded no results.
