My Wii became unable to read discs.

I wrote this with care, so I can help you helping me.
    Here is my exciting story:
I've gained a used Wii from my brother. It was softmoded, probably outdated, but that doesn't matter because I updated the Wii System to Version 4.3U trying to play an original "New Super Mario Bros Wii" game and every cool program - like HBC - was gone.

Stupidity, I know, but I went to "The 4.3 Softmod Guide" and softmoded my Wii again. Everything became just fine.

A time has passed, and now, any DVD game that I put on my console doesn't work (even original ones!!).
I put the DVD on my Wii and it starts to click:
Click, click! Click, click! Click, click!
    "Unable to read the disc."

    Besides, it was hardmoded too.
I don't really know with what chip it was hardmoded (almost sure is WiiKey), and neither my brother. So, I tried to discover what chip that was by myself opening my Wii, but that Y form screw screwed everything, but i made a discovery. Trying to open my Wii, I removed an internal battery and when I put my Wii together again, a DVD game worked! But only once. That battery removal probably reseted something...
I'm starting to think my Wii has free will...

    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

Well first off you never update a softmodded wii using nintendo's updates or you will lose most if not all your softmods. Just remember that you can play basically any game you want with a softmodded wii WITHOUT updating your systems firmware. All you need to have is an updated ios (for original disc loading) or an updated cios (for backups and HDD loading). It sounds like your drive might be going south. If so, you can still play games using a HDD. You just wont be able to rip discs to the drive using the wii. Just need to use your pc to do that.
If I have helped you in any way, please thank me by pressing the little thanks button.

Does that means my Wii's DVD reader is broken (or getting broken)?
I didn't understand the figure of speech...

All I did was recent with no errors, so i guess it's pretty much updated.

It wasn't stupid of you to resoftmod your Wii, I don't see why you think that. It sounds like your drive is broken, possibly from opening up the Wii. Softmodding has nothing to do with it, as it doesn't affect the hardware.

Have you tried the Nintendo lens cleaner. I used it because my Wii was not reading a dual layer game disc. It read a regular game disc and backup discs fine. But after using the Nintendo lens cleaner my Wii was able to read the dual layer game disc. I'm not saying it will fix your ploblem, but may eliminate a dirty lens as the cause of your problems.

I checked the bestbuy site and they no longer carry it, so I wonder if Nintendo quit making it, I bought one at gamestop about a month ago.

Try to reinstall your system ios with trucha, es-identify, and nand patches. If your on 4.1 that is ios60-v6174, if on 4.3 it is ios80. You can use MMM or Dop-mii to reinstall this. Let me know if that fixes your issue because I have a feeling that your modchip may not like the dip patch my guide installed for you. If that does fix you up, let me know what modchip you have.

The stupid thing I said I did was updating my Wii System by Nintendo.

Good, the patches in your ios are working just fine with your chip.

    It keeps happening!

I really need help with my console. Every time I put on a DVD I don't know if it's going to work or not. (I don't have an external USB HDD to load my games, but, even if I had, I want everything working...)

    I did a sysCheck. I hope that's helpfull.

I was doing a YouTube video of me explaning how does my Wii react when I put DVD's on It, but it came back to work in the worst time. =/

If anyone have interest to help me in real time with a webcam, I'd love to try. With my bad luck, I'm almost sure it won't be working when you try to contact me. (my time zone is GMT -3:00)

I guess the only utility of my post after all is to see if there is something wrong with my sysCheck.

    Thank you again!
