Gamecube game plays... but my controllers go off!

Been playing wii games for a couple of years on a 3.1E, hardmodded wii, bought secondhand. They work fine. I've just got a couple of gamecube games on disc (copies) and they seem to load well enough and run but the controllers fail to work. I have a old style controller attached to the wiimote that works well enough to start the game, from the disc channel, but as soon as the game loads the wiimote light goes out and both controllers fail to work, to get into the game further than the intros, and press start.

The games are Zelda Windwaker and Zelda the Complete Collection.

    Any help gratefully appreciated.

You can only use gamecube controllers with gamecube games.

Posted this in the wii games section? lol
Sent from my van, down by the river.

I eventually worked this out, last night, after several attempts at phrasing the right question into google search. Bidding on Wavebird, wireless controller, on ebay and hope that that does the trick. But thank you so much for confirming this. Wiihackers are always the best people to go to with Wii probs.
