Thread: Reason for downgrade?

  1. #1
I just picked up a black wii yesterday and I'm about to softmod it after I buy an external hard drive and Lego Indiana Jones tonight. My one question is what is the reason for downgrading from 4.3 -> 4.1? From what I understand, this is optional, but I never could find what the advantages/disadvantages of it are..

Thanks in advance for any clarification

Probably simular reason as asking these questions in the thread of the guide, instead of starting a new one.

I figured it was more of a generic question of what is the pros/cons of downgrading..

Mainly for people with modchips to get region free back. I'd still do it and install priiloader.

    I didn't realize priiloader wasn't compatible with 4.3, thanks

This is my opinion, but I don't think there's ever a reason to downgrade. It can brick your wii and if you ever upgrade it can brick it then too. I know the guide writers say you can do it but unless you have bootmii/boot2 I wouldn't do it.

The writer of that particular guide has probably helped to fi more bricks than most of us are aware exists. He is constantly active and supporting his guide. Most of us were here and seen the difficulty levels increase from nintendos updates that were just attempts to cripple softmodding and never added any functionality.

Bottom line is to downgrade because a person who knows more about the wii console than any of us could imagine to and is here to support you when following his guide, thinks you should do it.
