Thread: WBFS help! USB Loader acts as if nothing is plugged in

  1. #1

Exclamation WBFS help! USB Loader acts as if nothing is plugged in

I followed mauifrog's softmod guide to the T and am using the Configurable USB Loader v56. The WBFS version I have is "WBFS 2.5." I wanted to back up some games to my 250gig Western Digital external HDD, so I installed WBFS and used it to format the external to WBFS format. At first, I tried hooking it up to my Wii so i could just back up the games I have since I've gotten into trouble with piracy in the past and want to take special care in not installing a game I don't own through the use of an .iso found on the internet or renting a game and what have you. So I plug it into the "lower" USB port and when I try starting the Configurable USB Loader from the Wii home screen, I get a black screen that says "Error: Couldn't open file! Press any button to reboot Wii..." So i did and tried the other USB port, same problem.

At this point I, in my newbie splendor, assumed that it wasn't working because there wasn't any game loaded on the drive. So I got a SSBB .iso, a game I've owned since its release and enjoy very much, and used WBFS to move it to the drive. I then tried connecting it to my Wii and run the USB loader, but the same problem persists. I also tried running the USB loader when there was nothing connected to the Wii's USB ports and the same message pops up. So, from what I can tell, my Wii is not recognizing the external HDD and believes that there is nothing in the USB ports. Should I uninstall and reinstall/reformat my external HDD to WBFS again? Are Western Digital external HDDs just the wrong type of hard-drive to use for this?

I looked on this forum through various threads, FAQs, and tutorials but none seemed to address this specific problem. If there is a thread that discusses this and I missed it, I apologize for making a new thread and would appreciate a link to the "asked and answered" topic. Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

I think cfg loader is up to v60 now, not that that will solve your issue for sure. I don't use that one so I have no clue. I DO use a western digital mybook essential iTB hd with no problems at all, after correct formatting. If your partitioning is done incorrectly it will not work. wbfs partition must be the first one listed in disc management, must be active, and primary.

With cfg loader I don't think you even need wbfs though, can run fat or ntfs.

You could try a different loader. Do you have cIOS249 installed. You could also do a system check and post it here. That would help a lot.

to do a sys check go here http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...tem-check.html
    Wii 4.1U - cIOS38 rev17 - 500gbHDD - Wiiflow 2.1 - uLoader 5.1 - Wimc 1.0.9 - Priiloader 0.5 - boot2 - gamecube launcher 2.0 - cMIOS rev3

Looks Ok. Did You go into disc management and see if you WBFS is the first one listed (if your hard drive is partitioned) and it is set to Primary or active?

Looks fine to me - You could try a 222 boot dol for cfg http://cfg-loader.googlecode.com/files/cfg60-222.dol

Just replace the boot dol in the usb loader app in you apps folder

Also have you got your hdd set primary and active

    Hi guys
I used softmod guide from this site,no problem there.I went from 4.3e.to 4.1e.
I have HBC,Neogamma,USB Loader GX and GCback.

I decided to try running a game from my 8gb usb stick, which i formatted using WBFS manager. At first my Wii wouldnt recognise the usb stick until i switched port, now its found it,but when i boot the game Just Dance(for my daughter of course) all i get is a black screen.

Now i have tried both cIOS 249 and 222 but without success.using cIOS installer in HBC.

By the way the game is a backup from our original.

Is this just a settings problem?

    Thanks in advance

According to this guide http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...s-use-run.html Just Dance uses IOS53-64-v4113. You may need to install it.
