I downloaded Homebrew a few months back for my wii and recently none of my discs worked for my Wii. I look up what the problem was and turns out I have a broken lense. Nintendo can fix it for free if I ship it to them but I'm wondering... if I delete my homebrew app and stuff if they can still trace that I have had it before?
According to this tutorial, I would say, no they won't be able to tell.
I don't know if you are on 4.2 though. But, here is another one.
Before you go through all the trouble, you are sure it isn't just a dirty lense right? That is a pretty common problem to check first. Goodluck
Is it still under warranty? If not then I wouldn't take the chance. Either fix it yourself, find a trusted friend that is really good at that kind of thing or take it to a repair shop. You can get drives from around $60 or so. But I have to say that I bought 3 different Wii's with drive issue's and didn't have to put a dime into any of them. I even fixed one them (my play toy now) with sandpaper and a little luck, lol.
With sandpaper??? That sounds like an interesting one. Care to share the details?
Long story short... The motor that drives the lens back and forth wouldn't spin freely, it took a pair of needle nose pliers to spin it 1 rev. I took the clip off and used sandpaper, alcohol and time on the armature to grind/clean it just enough so it would spin again and what do you know.... I now have a boot2 Wii and a working DVD drive for $80.. May play toy.
That's awesome. Good thinking outside the box there.
