I believe you can follow this guide here and achieve what you are asking. Just be sure to download the hacks.ini in step 7 and put it on your SD card too.
I'm about to softmod my virgin 4.2U Wii using a 2gb Sandisk MicroSD with an Adapter (as recommended) with ShadowSonic2's guide using the offline method as I have no wifi connection and I have some questions before I start.
1. The guide shows what the SD card contents should be at the beginning of the process:
I don't have ready access to a card reader/writer at home so I'd like to put everything I need on the SD card at the beginning of the process (It would be easier than going back and forth from the Wii to the computer). Can I put the other material that is not in the initial SoftMod For 4.2 SD.rar (i.e. hacks.ini, IOS38-64-v3867.wad, IOS55-v5406[TB].wad, IOS53-v5406 [TB].wad) on the card before I start or does hacks.ini, for instance, need to be left off?
2. IOS38-64-v3610.wad and IOS38-64-v3867.wad
The guide calls for IOS38-64-v3610.wad to be on the root at the beginning of the process and Step 5 says: Note for Offline Users: You must place this .wad on the root of your SD Card before running WAD Install: IOS38-64-v3867.wad
Can someone explain what these are/the difference? Do I install both of these? Should they both be on the SD card from the beginning? Does IOS38-64-v3867.wad supersede IOS38-64-v3610.wad?
This is because the guide was updated to include cIOS38 Rev 17 (it had 14 before). They require a different version of base wad. The reason it is not included in the modpack is because shadow has not had a chance to update it so he just linked the correct .wad needed.Note for Offline Users: You must place this .wad on the root of your SD Card before running WAD Install: IOS38-64-v3867.wad
Can someone explain what these are/the difference?
You don't install either of them. They are used when running the cIOS Installer if you choose wad install.Do I install both of these?
