hanging my head in shame, i must learn to title a thread
I modded my wii, which has the 4.2 system menu, thinking i might be able to get the usb backup method working. at the time, the only thing we used the wii for was occasional rock band sessions - i'm 30 with two kids and a wife in law school, so there's not a lot of time for the wii these days. well, it didn't work. the hard drives i have aren't very compatible so even when i could detect the partition, it wouldn't work very long. no biggie, i thought, i'll just leave it until i can afford a hard drive for the thing.
fast forward several months. we've cancelled cable and use the wii for netflix now. doesn't take very long before my wife gets sick of bootmii (installed as boot2) and the occasional lockups that result - seems like if the wii has been on a while on the bootmii screen, it'll freeze when you hit reset. easily dealt with, but my wife, being a wife, isn't having it.
so i need to restore my wii's innocence. no problem, i installed bootmii. that's gotta be easy, right? maybe it is, but i can't seem to figure it out. i tried the "make your wii a virgin" tutorial: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...ii-virgin.html Didn't get very far. Step one for 4.2 users is install IOS60-64-v6174.wad. All aboard the failboat. Can't get the wad to install. I get some -xxxx error. Can't remember the error at the moment, as the kids are awake and if I turn the damn thing on they'll think it's thomas the tank engine time. so if needed, i can get the actual results later.
TLDR: I need to virginate my 4.2 wii with bootmii installed. I have a nand backup from when I first started - bootmii was the first thing i did once the hacks needed were in place. When I try the guide, I fail on the first step.
when did you make the nand back up...(if right after bootmi installation ....great news)
you know to stop booting into bootmii on power up all you had to do was rename the bootmii folder on your sd to something else or move it to your pc
oh man. title schooled.
yes, i made the backup right after installing bootmii. i didn't want to remove it from the bootup in case i did something to brick it. at this point, i want to remove all the mods anyway because they seem to have broken the wii store and new song downloads in rock band. if i want to mod i'll have to get my own console to play with, not the one the family uses.
Option1(make sure the wii doesn't get turned off accidentally)
make sure you have nand.bin and keys.bin on the root of your sd card(that you made after bootmii installation)
load into bootmii select the gears icon with POWER=Browse and RESET=Select ..
after that chose the icon which points from SD to The Wii(red arrow).....and select that....
This will restore your wii to the point when you just had bootmii and hbc installed.......(meaning you will lose the channels and game saves you didnt have when you made the backup)
Option2:If you dont wont to lose your data
I ran option 2. That worked perfectly! Thank you very much for your help.
