DVD Drive Problem Need Temporary Fix

I have a bad dvd drive on a 4.3U system menu wii that I would like to mod to use an external hard drive to play through Wiiflow. Once it is set up I will not need the dvd to work. I bought a multimeter and have been trying to find a picture or some clue where to start checking to see if it is a blown fuse. There seems to be no power to the drive (no spin on start and no loading or sounds at all). All of the posts I have found through google are old and the picture is no longer available. Many of them mention bridging the fuse as a temporary work around which sounds ideal for what I am trying to do. If I had a picture or a better description I think I will be able to do this. Has anyone done this to their dvd circuit board? If so, any pointers or advice that can give me a start is appreciated.

A very nice guide with good pictures, but I already have my machine disassembled. I'm looking for information on the dvd board for what to do to the board or fuses once they have been identified as bad (and where they are). Thank you though.

Thanks. Trying not to invest too much more. If I can get a band-aid solution for this drive I would be able to mod the 4.3 using the Indiana Jones disc.

That would work and probably is a very good option for me as long as I don't end up breaking theirs as well. All those screws though.... ugh!
